Cheesus. Someone got the original article, used Google Translate to translate it to Greek, then used that to translate to Hebrew, then used that to translate to Japanese, then used that to translate to Korean, then used that to translate to English.

It barely reads like the original. Perhaps my name in the second paragraph and that's pretty much it.

That hurt to read.

Glad it was a peaceful encounter for you.

Since it is behind the Herald paywall now and I don’t want the pain of the multi lingual translations, is the event as follows in NZ English?

Some dick falsely told the cops that Mauricio had a bomb at his place.

The cops turned up and said “Gidday mate, have you got a bomb at your place?”

Mauricio said “Yeah, Nah.”

Cops said “All good, see ya.”

While not a good situation (and not trying to play it down as it's serious) the swat team didn't turn up as such, just a couple of cops, so attempted swatting perhaps? Sounds more like you were "bumbled" by a couple of relatively helpful policemen? ;)

A SWAT team never acts after an anonymous vague phone call (only) - there are always several levels of confirmation or trigger in between.

I think it was someone from 'nerdzone' trying to eliminate the competition.

Yes, except when it doesn't, like in many times that happened in America...

Sad to hear that happened to you. A couple of years back I and some of my coworkers had a disagreement with one of our bosses at work. We all left that employer for better opportunities elsewhere. A couple of months after we left, three of us ex-employees were visited by the police (all on the same day) to ask if we had anything to do with an attempted murder on one of said bosses at our ex-employer. Turned out the person was stabbed at night while leaving the workplace. Was definitely one of those 'what the heck' moments but understood the police had to follow up on the names given to them by the 'victim'. Oddly enough it seemed to only be those three people--those of us who stood up to that boss. Another 'what the heck' moment happened many months later when I was told by several still working for that employer that it turned out the person made the whole story up (possibly to get back at us for raising some of the dodgy stuff we were concerned about). Still wonder to this day if the person made up the whole story to get back at the people that she named to the police. Not sure why the person would want to do that, but it's clear there are people out there twisted enough to try and arrange a police visit to innocent people for whatever reasons they can come up with. Thankfully the police were very nice and apologetic, admitting they were simply just following up on the names given to them and they had to do so in cases like this.

So was that person actually stabbed?! As in did they stab themselves?

We use to get visited by various "authorities" because our neighbors didn't like us. Dog control, CYFS, pool inspector.... regular visitors.

Never had the police though. Was probably on their list until they moved.....

Yup we had the same, until things went to far and she said she seen me with a gun, Nec minute armed defenders and the whole shebang.

She was arrested after they found out what really was going on and she ended up with a slap on the hand from the judge. Never mind it scared the hell out of the wife.

@freitasm , sorry it happened to you, its not a nice feeling having police turn up at your door as you think the worst as soon as you seen them.
