Radio windy in Wellington, which I think is still around but rebranded as The Breeze.

I had an old valve set from my parents, which used to be in the kitchen before they got a "modern" transistor one. It used to take about a minute to warm up after switching on, but its sensitivity was amazing. I connected a long-wire aerial and a ground to it (it had connectors for both). With a bit of fiddling, and on a good night, I could often pull in (fairly staticy) AM broadcasts from as far away as Sydney.

I remember that, it became The Breeze in 1993, meaning Wellington didn't have a rock station until The Quake 97.5 ran from 1995-1997, and then The Rock came along in 1999 (taking over The Pirate's old frequency of 96.3).
