FineWine:

Condolences to the Royal Family near and far.

Being Ex military I polished Her brass Crown on my buttons, belt buckle and hat badge for 11 years. Just after I retired they changed all of these to plastic. This is not going to be a cheap exercise through out the military & emergency services and throughout the Commonwealth.

Stand easy. The so called "King's" crown was the Imperial crown used by Victoria and subsequent Kings while they had India. The crown has no gender so should stay the same.

I heard that the MI6 are proposing the code name "Whopper Jnr" for KC3  :-)

That's not entirely true - the new monarch may choose not to be crowned with the Crown of St Edward, which would be a mess for quite of a lot of places (especially since it forms part of many colony's coat of arms or badges).

Google Play Store this morning in apps and games has a black tile at the top with text 'Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II our deepest condolences". The tile does nothing.

It is unnecessary and an intrusion. The event already has wall to wall news coverage. It will go on for weeks through the funeral and coronation. I can watch it or turn it off. The tile is first an intrusion and second cannot be removed. It's offensive.

Who cares? It’s a tile.

Yes, apologies for my previous answer based on some random Quora post. British monarchs have considered themselves imperial since 15th cent. India may just have influenced the style of a crown made for Victoria.

Charles III has revealed his cypher and it has the other crown above CIIIR

So, going back to my original post it appears that CIIIR has taken the cypher of the Tudor crown.

Looking at His tie pin, which He wore at His Proclamation ceremony in which it shows the more rounded Tudor crown

This is going to be a huge expense to a lot of governments and organisations. The; uniform, crochet, sewing, metal & wood workers & manufacturers etc, are all going to be very busy for the next few years and of course coins and bank notes and passports. Think of all those English Royal Mail post boxes.

But you never know He may cough up some of all that money The Firm has in its own right.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I'm sure they'll only replace things on an as-needed basis. I can't picture them going around the country replacing perfectly good E mailboxes with ones that have a C on it.

They only replace them as needed. This is why we (meaning the UK) still have pillar post boxes with Victoria Regina on them and K6 phone boxes with George V regalia, both dating to the dawn of time for those things.

I can just about understand it with the British, but I don't really understand why you continue with pomp and circumstance after your own independence?

I have seen all the nice crown jewels in the Tower of London, but somehow they remind me of times long gone and ultimately of the fates of the people of those countries where the jewels of power were "found". This is not an accusation or offense - just my immediate thoughts when I saw these many different crowns.

The sovereign queen or king of the United Kingdom is the head of state of New Zealand.

I know that ;-) - but maybe my question doesn't belong here either.

100%.  The oldest working box is in Dorset and has been in use for 169 years now.  Given the way letter-writing has fallen away across the globe, I'd think there will be relatively few brand new British Post Boxes going up with the King's cypher on them.  If anything, they'll become something of a novelty because they're likely to be rare.
