Georgie Pie.... still hurts..... they were so good...
I think Toy Warehouse also had a store on Riccarton Road in Christchurch.

Also thinking of some of the bank brands we had: Trust Bank, The National Bank, Countrywide, United, etc
My primary bank account is the one I had at primary school with school banking. In 40 years I'd guess it's been through four banks through acquisition with same account number. Name escapes me of the original bank but became Trustbank then WestpacTrust then just Westpac. Keep thinking the initial bank was the Post Office Savings Bank but that became Postbank which was acquired by ANZ.
Then there's the account I set up when I had my paper run with National Bank which as we know ANZ gobbled up. Had to set up a transactional account as my other account was savings only which at the time the account type couldn't be changed.

a corner plot in Rotorua that every business that has moved in has not survived. Bond and Boned were there and the latest casualty was Dunkin Donuts. pretty sure it is waiting for the next victim .
Is that the corner of Fenton St and Amohau St?
That location has been a graveyard for businesses: Toy Warehouse and Homestead Chicken among others.

That pastry! I'm not really a pie eater, but I loved that pastry. Surely, someone must know the secret?

I think TrustBank was preceded by Trustee Bank, which was preceded by the Canterbury Savings Bank.

used to be a chain store in the 90s called 'Card Crazy' which used to sell trading cards, used to be the in thing to collect basketball cards back then, still have all mine somewhere
it's back! Just relaunched the store in New Plymouth recently and better than ever, website is back also.
Did there used to be a Card Crazy in Takapuna? On Lake Road somewhere, the owner was American.
I remember playing, and learning, foosball with the owner after school. Love that place.

no it is where the city focus was but that corner is interesting because they all failed due to not doing what they were told to do in regards to geothermal gases underneath the site. My father was the geothermal inspector in Rotorua and he told everyone who were going to set up their business on the site that they needed a special floor to stop fatal gases coming up into the buildings , McDonalds on the other corner spent up to a million dollars to get one installed and why that branch was the most expensive one built in NZ, my father used to go into the business's and do gas readings and if they were above a certain level he closed the store down and that happened a lot . I remember when it was an icecream place took over the site and Dad told them what would happen and they just said no problem God will protect them , it was closed within 6 months or so because of the gas levels.
Common sense is not as common as you think.
How about Pascall? From memory they took over Griffin's sweet line in the early 1990s - but I think Pascall are all but gone now too.
The brand still exists but I think it's part of Cadbury now.
What about Hudson's Chocolate Chippies?
Hudson chocolate chippies were a part of Cadburys, IIRC there was a swap around the 90s... all the biscuits went to griffins and the pascall lollies became part of cadburys.
Something that is alive still but just not the same, the chocolate chip biscuits are almost the same but maybe smaller, but shrewsbury and toffee pops and mallow puffs are all smaller and not the same at all from what they used to be.
Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

Yeah Trustee Bank rings a bell...
Tip Top Strawberry Toppa - yum yum - please bring back.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
I remember men's clothing retailer Hugh Wright having (slightly) better quality clothes than Hallensteins during the 90s, but they went into receivership in 2002 after surviving for 98 years.
Hill and Stewart were another casualty in the appliance retailing space, although they were at least acquired by JB Hi-Fi in 2006 with the brand being retired in 2010.
It was a sad day as a kid when the Toy Warehouse was acquired by Deka and then Deka shutdown (after merging with Farmers). The Toy Warehouse had a huge range of toys by NZ standards.
