I think it's important to remember that no place in the world is perfect.

Out of interest, how's the fly situation there these days outside of the city. I recall in previous trips in summer the flies were trying to drink more beer from my bottle than i was! Might be worse in certain areas.

See the problem is you moved to Queensland, which is full of Queenslanders. That'd make me pretty unhappy.

Having said that we moved from Darwin to Taranaki, and we're pretty damn happy. I live rural and I have fibre internet so I'm pretty much happy honestly and it's not hot. You've got to try and embrace where you are and make the most of it. We're simple home bodies so it's not hard to please us.

As I posted elsewhere here recently, we’ve just been in Sydney for a long weekend and if we were 20 years younger, we’d be looking at moving I think.

Honestly, I think the best future for NZ would be to avail itself of the ability within the Australian Constitution that allows it to join the Federation.

It’ll never happen though.

Agreed and sadly agreed.

I've thought about making the jump, but I don't think I'd look at it again until the kids are finished high school. Both times I've visited QLD I found it stupidly hot, probably wouldn't move there, but I find Auckland to be far too hot so YMMV lol.

New Zealand was once part of New South Wales. The Australian constitution still offers New Zealand to become an Australian state, its just up to NZ to take up the offer.

I know a lot of people who wouldn't like that, myself included.

A common currency between the two countries (a la the Euro) could be good, but apart from that? Nah. I have no interest in becoming an Australian citizen.

The other 5 states in Australia also don't want to be part of NSW :-) If New Zealand was its own state it could work.

To be honest I like the idea, but I prefer the idea of Australia becoming part of NZ. Nobody ever seems to suggest that.
