Bad people will do bad things, regardless of which (if any) divine being they prey to.

Indeed - in fact this is less about religion and more about fanaticism. Intertwined, but also not the same.

I think what's making me the most angry is the political points scoring that takes place after an event like this. It's gross and unnecessary.

Oh my goodness. This is so true. All the political scoring and the optics in appearing to the media and the public is just insane.

Not to mention the knee jerk reactions so as to appear like action is being taken.

Yeah, nah. I'm with Steven Weinberg here. “With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion.”

Its events like these that make you ask if you really know the people closest to you. Two thirds of my family are now in timeout on my social media channels from the absolute nonsense they are spouting. I always knew there was an undercurrent of racism circulating within my family and it was one of the reasons why I left Australia back in 2011. But what has come out of them in the last 2 days makes me embarrased for them and little bit ashamed to be associated with them.

While nowhere is perfect I'm glad my long term future lies here in NZ.

Were you living in a major city, a small town, or the outback?

When the Bondi shootings happened, I felt the same unease I did 5 years earlier when I heard news of the Christchurch shootings on the radio. And in both cases the Great Replacement truthers cashed in on them.

Thankfully I am blissfully unaware of the contributions (or lack thereof) of my family and friends to social media. 💀

I am not on social media other than reddi, for which I am very thankful

I saw the news story break on RNZ and read the theard here

I will say my heart goes out to those that were affected.

I am thankful for those that stood up to help and provide assistance during and after.

I read a news story about a Bondi lifeguard running in barefeet when they heard the shots.

These types of news stories give me hope.

I personally dont want to know who or why the attackers did what they did. I don't want to read opinion pieces on justifications or pointing figures or hate.

I am thankful for the mods making this a safe place and not allowing it to turn into a social media shouting match.

Said family members probably supported Sir Joh (and later Pauline Hanson), I'm guessing? To some extent the stench of his rule still lingers.

Well the remaining shooter has woken and been charged with 15 counts of murder and 1 of comitting a terrorist act.

Let's hope this can get through the courts with the minimum amount of coverage, least amount of harm to the victims families and friends, and without giving this person any more attention than they absolutely must have to let justice do it's thing.

Much like the mosque shooter, all future media coverage of anything to do with their lives should be permanently banned. Even in prison, referred only to their number and no outside contact permitted permenantly
