Spoke to HN Hamilton and advised I need to come into store and pay upfront to get a raincheck - they are getting overwhelmed with requests. Guess I'm heading across town!

Morning Folks! As soon as I saw the rain check notice tweeted this morning I took a drive into the Tory Street Harvey Norman branch and arrived at 9am.

I spoke to two of the sales staff who had no knowledge at all of the offer and did advise that these were end of line and would not be able to source any more of the product. I told them of this rain check and they got Tracy (store or floor manager) to come and explain. She made the offer of a $400 discount on any of the other current netbooks which were based on RRP. Uh Uh!

I get to talking to her, confirming that they couldn't source these. I ask for a rain check and she gets one of her staff to process it through. She made is very clear that they had not yet sourced a comparable product and they had no knowledge at this point in time what that offer would be.

Based on this, they couldn't charge me the $288 at that point as it wasn't the point of sale on the product advertised.

While out there, I had my wife call around HN Wellington region. Scott from Porirua called back and said they had just received an email from head office and that they were doing rain checks? BUT (and that?s a big butt) that all customers would have to come in store (as I did) and pay the $288 for the product that they would be offering customers (not the HP Mini 110-1111TU).

Obviously there is some conflicting advice out there across the HN Stores and I suppose as the information trickles down to the staff today it might become clearer.

Has anyone else had any other advice that?s similar?

Just back from HN Hamilton - salesperson said they weren't offering rainchecks on the HP netbook, I told him to consult with his manager... and all sorted. Paid my $288, will see what they offer in a few weeks.

Does anyone know when this $288 offer lasts?

I got an email from Anna Johnson GM of Computers and Communications for Harvey Norman. I rainchecked with her via email she was going to pass my details onto the store (I choose Porirua as it was closest). I WILL NOT be paying $288 until they can confirm that any stock will be sourced and available in NZ.

Anna had told me they exhausted stock in NZ very quickly and they were trying to source other stock most likely from Australia.

Anna also said that suppliers weren't back on deck until at least 5th of January so they really can't tell until then.

I got a raincheck over the phone from the Hastings branch.  No mention was made of either going in or needing to pay up-front.

Pukekohe store said the replacement will be a ASUS.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Tory St were very professional.  They took down my details and while I waited added them to the system.  They also printed out an invoice number and said they will call me back.  If I haven't heard back by Monday next week I'll give them a call.

They don't know that. Personally I would far prefer the HP of the ASUS, and I believe if you have to pre pay for an HP mini, they would have to provide an equivalent model of that brand, that has 'at least' the same features that were advertised, to fulfill the contract. Certainly there are many HP mini models avaliable for them to select.

I phoned the Lower Hutt store, and they require you to go into the store to put in a raincheck, as they claim they don't accept credit cards over the phone. At least if you pay in advance for the rain check, you then have a  contract for them to provide it.

I spoke to the Tory Street store over the phone and got an invoice number issued. They had my contact details on file - we'd purchased there before. I will follow up next Monday also if I have not heard back by then.

I spoke to whangarei store on the phone. Had to go in and pay $100 deposit. They took my details and said it would be towards the end of January before something was available.
There were small signs in a few places around the computer dept saying the hp mini had sold out and was no longer available so they aren't advertising the fact that you can do a raincheck in store.

Yes, no notice anywhere that they were doing a raincheck, just that it was sold out. I had to go into the store and pay the full price. They did however give me an invoice stating the HP model and it showed its regular, which was $799, so I would expect that if they can't source that particular model, that it will be substituted for one that is that price.

Went into the Lower Hutt store with my sister (as we both wanted one). Got a rain check, also told may be end of Jan. Had to pay whole amount upfront. Told me that they hope they get the same model, otherwise could cause them big headaches. Sign in front of escalator said "Sorry sold out", no mention of rain checks. You had to ask.

But at least I have a receipt now. So by the end of Jan should have it :)

Went into the Mount Wellington Store here after confirming that it was ok over the phone.

First sales person declined to do the raincheck, instead trying to upsell me on a $600 netbook. Second sales person knew exactly what I was talking about and put the raincheck through.
