ahmad:
freitasm: How easy to open the external case?

Along the lines of this question - I don't know much when it comes to the internals of my PC.

I have an AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.0Ghz which has a 120Gb HDD and a 40Gb HDD installed internally.

If I'm not mistaken these are "IDE" HDDs?

Is this WD HDD suitable to just plug into my current system? Or have HDDs evolved and would it require a more modern motherboard?

It external USB, or if you want to rip it open the drive is SATA, your motherboard you should support this. Laughing

So even my old mother board supports SATA? I wouldn't have a clue if it does or not. I've just been using that same old ribbon IDE cable all the way from the old days :)

You need to check your MB manual. My PC is Athlon 64 3200+ and the MB supports SATA.

Sure hope it's easier that the Seagate one I have here.  Opening the top of the case was a challenge  but when you get in it requires special screw drivers to open the unit to get at the hard disk..

Just went into the Alexandra store and bought one. The lady said they had already sold half a dozen and I was there about 5 mins after opening. Don't think they will stick around for long and the store here is probably one of the lowest volume stores in NZ.
