Even if that's true he didn't know he was getting a deal at the time, as the price tag on the product was what he was charged.

at the time of purchase i thought it was on sale for $599. I never knew they had the wrong price tag on it. I just said i want the amp and the other bits(speakers and sub, which also had sale price on them. Only when e called me a day later saying they have charged me the wrong price for the amp, did I know the true value. I thought it was a big discount because it might have been old stock and they were clearing stock to make way for new products.

And even so, the sales person if it was marked down so low, should have laised with a manger on whether it really is mared down so low. What makes it more confusing is that the manager of the department was helping me as well and packed my stuff in the trolley and loaded it in my car. He also must have seen the invoice. The admin lady how approved my finance also saw the prices and they can't be so silly not to see a massive discount unless they were clearing stocks and didn't bother about such a discount.

I received an email from Amazon yesterday, offering the Denon 3310ci for $968 nzd.

I've checked local prices, and this retails for $3500 to $3999, you can buy one from trademe (assuming parallel imported) for $2900.

So, perhaps you should stick to your guns. Fight for the little mans rights.

Some interesting things have come up in this thread:

1. If the product you received matches the one on the invoice, and you paid the amount on the invoice, you have nothing to worry about. Nice score.

2. It is correct what was stated earlier that it is illegal to deduct the mistake from the employee's wages, but I would imagine it will be deducted from commission payments.

3. It is not illegal to offer a cash price during an interest free period, it is however if they refuse to do that same price on interest free. And not just for your purchase, but for anyone that comes along to purchase the same package you did until the end of the promotional period. However, they could claim that an honest mistake has been made, which would most likely hold up considering the effort that they've gone through!

I also have been in a situation like this. Wanted a new release PS3 game (Resistance 2 IIRC) and the guys scanned it up for $29 (Ticket said $129) I queried whether this was correct and the guy went and got his manager. He came over, looked at the screen and price tag, and said 'Just do it'. So I got it for $29. 2 weeks later, got a call from someone asking if I had used it as it was sold below cost. I had. I also pointed out that the manager knew it was the wrong price but authorised it anyway and they left it at that. I also got one of those $288 netbooks, so some good deals can be had from HN!

It goes to show how costly it can be to your business when you either:

1) Have poor staff training
2) Poor data entry clerk
3) Poor POS systems without specific warnings

Then again, don't feel that sorry for them since consumers often get bitten at the supermarket checkouts without knowing (I mean, 50c extra on something you just wouldn't know).

Having had this happen in the past, I have been told that as soon as they accept your money and give you the invoice and change it is too late for them to do anything as the goods become yours.

The only way they can do anything is if you have dicked with the prices or barcodes (like that guy in wallmart buying an iPod with the barcode from some iPod speakers) or if you should have reasonably known that the item was priced wrong.

Paying a lawyer to argue the reasonable word is more than they lost there so they will get away with it on that part, and unless you swapped price stickers you are fine on the first one.

Friend had 2 quite agro guys follow him to the car after getting a absolute bargain on a box set of some crap tv show before. Nothing they can do other than try to guilt you once you have that invoice.

Also never hand an invoice over to someone that works in the shop in that case, the invoice is your property as well.

Agreed, if you go back I would suggest taking a photocopy - so you have proof but still have the original safe and sound!

Doesn't matter, they don't ship overseas, and the voltage is wrong. Point is, prices in NZ are inflated beyond reasonable levels. This stuff all ships from china anyway.

I reckon , $599 is probably about the correct price for the onkyo 707 receiver.

Even if you pay via finance option, HN got the money out of the finance company. The goods are paid for, he owes the finance company, not HN.

This is why I HATE the fact that retailers ask for your personal details when you buy something from them. Isn't it your RIGHT not have these recorded? What do you do @Freitasm?

As far as I know HN have no legal claim in this situation but now that they have his deatils what can/will they do about it??

Another question - this is different to a situation in which he was offered it for $1599 and then they accidentally put $599 via EFTPOS (leaving off the "1") isn't it? In that hypothetical case they can chase him up for another $100 am I right?
