jofizz: You can't ban burqas the same way as you can't ban gang patches, hoodies, black t-shirts, white t-shirts, blue bandanas, red bandanas.... The list goes on and on. We are a free country, and you are free to choose.

great, you are one of the few. try telling most christians that one of the ten commandments was
"The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep in the month when the ear is on the corn"

and another was:

"Thou shalt not seethe a kid in its mother's milk."

and you will be met with blank stares.

and also there is the 'old' testament and the 'new' testament which are also very different..

umm, so what? that is not really demostrating a great deal of in-depth knowledge of christianity to know that.

No I know but the revelance is to how alot of Christians mix between the old and new testament but don't actually understand or in other words they often interpret it wrong.

Basically claiming one thing to another - I didn't want to go in to huge detail about this particular subject as their are heaps of examples..

I'd never get home in time for dinner haha

Fundamentally there's not much difference between saying you can't wear this and a religion saying you must wear this. If you've been brainwashed by a religion then you're likely to be pretty cut up about not being able to adhere to it, when you believe you want to.

If you are practising that religion, then you might not feel comfortable not being able to adhere to all components of it. Unless you are the supermarket variety most people seem to be, ie taking the bits that suit your lifestyle, but still proudly announcing the label.

Anyway, nothings black or white, despite what a lot of people think. What I'd like to know is, where do you purchase one of these burqa suits, and is there a market for burqas made with more modern advanced materials. A sports burqa, a snow burqa, a scuba diving burqa, a thermaplus or goretex burqa etc....

I'm not disagreeing with you, I was only stating what I often hear argued from both Muslims and Christains. Also considering too, despite what you may believe - this arguement between both religions has been going on for thosounds of years..

Reminds me of the Red Dwarf Episode in series 1 (Waiting for God) where Lister finds out that in the 3m years he was in stasis, cats evolved on the ship into human-like beings, including developing religion, based on him being their god and desiring a fast food chain or something. Despite their religions being fundamentally the same, they had religious wars based on the most silly things, like which colour hat the staff in the fast food chain would wear (and neither side were right as it turned out).

They even tried to find the promised land based on a map, which turned out to be Lister’s laundry list.

Not necessarily wrong, (I mean who am I to tell anyone else how to live their life?)
I'm just saying if you only adhere to some parts of the actual requirements then at some stage you can't really call yourself by that label.

A bit like a vegetarian who eats meat on the weekends and still loves a good steak burger, oh and who eats chicken too. Are they still honestly a vegetarian.

Point was, if the burqa is important to people, and they consider it a core part of their religion, who are we to turn around and say we're helping them by banning it. If the person wearing it doesn't view it as men controlling them, and they've been suitably brainwashed by their religion, then we're not really freeing them. Actually in that case we're rather being the USA, invading a country and then telling them it's for their own good.

Good point! Twas interested in what your thoughts were about the types of people out there that pick out the bits they like, becomes quite interesting with religion though.

On a different subject I'm a bit like that myself but I don't label myself. I like to pick out certain things that appeal to me, like going to the gym and keeping fit - this suits my lifestyle very well but I wouldn't classify myself as an athlete.. (yet) :)
