sigh there are no good fish n chip shops in motueka nany more they all suck !old oil burnt chips and really expensive maybe a market here for a good one all four need a kik in the pants Great indian though lol

When i was growing up in mot the best place was out in Riwaka, on that corner, i think the school was nearby?. However getting out there was always a misson so would settle for Wheelhouse.. Went back to the wheelhouse for the first in 10+ years a couple weeks ago to find it was now half a chinese supermarket of sorts?? however they still do creamdonuts, a fond memory as a kid! (mot is the only place in the country i have found them to date)

I am astounded by two things in this thread.
The number of people who like crumbed fish instead of the real thing ;p

And the number of people in/previously in the Nelson/Tasman area!

garvani, where the heck are you now that you can't find cream donuts?

Crumbed fish is nowhere near as good as real, battered fish (even if you do pay $3-4 a piece.. it's worth that for a good fish).

Also, there's cream donuts in every bakery I can think of that I've been to..

no one has mentioned the fish and chip shop in Kawakawa Bay, they won over all best fish and chips in the country about 8 years ago, put their prices thru the roof and protions thru the floor!

They were nice but not worth travelling for 45 min then getting ripped off!

Im in Blenheim now have been for a few years, you cant get them in Nelson either. Only good ol mot! These are not your ordinary cream donuts from the bakery, well technically they are.. but they have been battered and deepfried then rolled in cinnamon/sugar when they get out.. Extremely good for you!!! Healthy? probably not but delicious. Back in the day they added food colouring to them, so they would be bright green or orange, people would look sideways at you.

Anyone in Riccarton? Is Big garrys still there? His hotdogs were something to behold too. it was a meal in one, a good part of my student allowance was blown on them

I'm happy to drive out of my way to go the the chip basket in Wairau (Diana Drive), if that's a marker of a good fish and chip shop. Crisp chippies and batter, not too greasy fish and a wide menu selection

Big garrys is still here, still popular in the wee hours. I much prefere capatain bens on ilam road myself, he does really thick chips and a double down copy called the twice down

When Big Garry sold the Riccarton Rd store he opened one in Belfast next to the Antiques store. I believe he still runs that one (can't be sure, been a few years since I last ate there). Was great when I was finishing a late shift during uni and could still get a mega hotdog at midnight for dinner.

Sorry, its just off Ilam Road. Its in the block of shops with a V branded dairy, indian takeaway and Foo Sans chinese restaurant.

Am I right to assume there was never a big guy called gary involved?

Captain Bens is on the corner of rountree and ilam.. I went back there a year or so ago (big garrys and bens were my local). There chicken burgers were still as good as i remember.

Not much data here for Wellington's northern suburbs so here's my two cents worth.

Whitby seafoods, good enough for our weekly fill of fish'n'chips (although I'm a meat-pattie man myself), can be a little inconsistent in quantity provided and how long it's cooked for.

Whitby Chinese does cr*p f'n'c but OK Chinese food, a bit pricey.

Very sad to see Krishna close down his Indian takeaway in Waitangirua. We now travel to Linden for our curries (not sure of the name of the shop);great quality and quantity at good prices, far better value than any sit-down Indian restaurants in the area that also do takeaways.

Great wakatori grilled chicken and pad thai from the Japanese Thai in Hartham Place, Porirua

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.
