As the title suggests, what's your favourite place? I love Ivan's Takeaways (And they have awards, so they've gotta be good). Also Oceanz seafood is pretty damn nice.

If you're a fan of Oceanz too, be sure to check out their Yazoom deal it's pretty good value. :)

Is Ivan's owned by some Greek brothers ? If it is the one i am thinking of, then yes it is one of the best.

Where is Ivans?

I'd like to know where to get really good indian or chinese takeaways in Auckland/Central?

Hee's Garden in Mt Eden are decent takeaways.

Ivan's (atleast the one I go to) is Asian owned, so it's different - they may be franchised though. There's one in North Shore and WestGate. They're both award winning.. I've only tried one of them.

I know a good place for Chinese, which is "Welcome Chinese Takeaways" Coronation Road just on the north side of the bridge.

The original owner of Ivans sold up in the 90s some time if memory servers right and then he opened a new shop on Shakespear Rd called Possas or something similar, however last I heard he had bought back the original shop on Glenfield Rd, not sure if he still operates this however.

After talking up Kiwi fush and chups to my English girlfriend she was not that impressed when we visited earlier this year. Mind you she couldn't understand my obsession with the mince and cheese pies from Upper Crust bakery on Chartwell Rd either - guess it must be a matter of taste! Laughing

Moby Dicks Fish and Chips in Epuni St Lower Hutt.

Best fish and chips I have ever tasted. It's now our local!

Happy Takeaways on Avalon Drive (Hamilton), fish is always fresh and chips are home-made (Chinese run), but for Burgers can't go past Westside Takeaways in Dinsdale (Hamilton)

The one on Wakefield Quay, Nelson. I think it's called Haven Takeaways.

Further afield, I love the one at Port Melbourne.

As an aside...
What does it cost at different locations?
I'm in Nelson and still shocked by the stupid prices here.
$3.80 for fish, $3.20 hotdog and around $3.60 for a scoop.
Now the scoops are about half the size you get in Chch/Timaru
Mates of mine who visit from down there are shocked at the small servings and prices here.

I did a double take the other day when it cost me $20 for a scoop, 4 fish and a pineapple ring.

I was in San Francisco last weekend (missed the Air NZ flight to Auckland, so had to spend an extra day in town) and went to Alioto's to have some seafood chowder (apetizer, which is our entree) and entree (which is our mains).

Had a great shellfish ravioli for mains, and then noticed the couple next to me ordered fish and chips, at US$19.25 per portion (before tips). Don't believe me? Check www.aliotos.com and find the menu

I'm sure it tasted nicer than the crap they have in Johnsonville, but sure not cheap...

The one across the station is horrible. The fish is soggy, the chips taste like week old oil.

The best Fish 'n' Chips I ever had in New Zealand was in Hawkes Bay, The Frying Dutchman (www.thefryingdutchman.co.nz). They have a store in Napier and one in Clive.

Beautiful fish, nice crisp chips...

Maclean St, Paraparaumu... even though I have 2 within a k of me, I go the extra distance.

It's also where most people that have fish 'n chips on the beach go.
