And mine.

Nationals policies, although painful in the short term, make for greater economic growth in the future. That is what NZ needs, not a population that is only interested in "what is in it for me and can I have it now please.....?"

State run = money pit.
You would be amazed at the costs that are in some of our govt offices. Key is correct in going after them to reduce costs. Massive wastage is common.

this is a pointless reply. you need to give facts not a baseless paragraph of words. give me example(s) of what John Key has done since 08? how prepared is national with the recession (we knew this is coming)?

apart from 'muddling through', what else national plan to do?

Nation have been running a deficit, they are spending more that they are collecting.
The last Labor lead government ran with a surplus even after buying some BMW's (The National also brought and could have pulled out if they wanted too) and other minor things.

BTW My vote isn't for National or Labor under MMP there are more choices.
I can understand why the rich would vote for National, they got a pretty sweet deal from there tax cuts.

Yes but you are forgetting that NZ went into recession just as labour went out, and the world suffered a major economic crisis, and still are. Labour didn't do a good job during the good times, when NZ shouldhave grown productively, like other countries did. I would doubt things would be any better if labour had still been in. They too would have had to borrow, and more people would have moved over to oz.

The government maybe borrowing, but then again the country as a whole is spending more than we are earning. The main difference is that much of the private borrowings have now turned into public borrowing. Thats what happens when you borrow to give tax cuts, and that money is then saved or used to pay down debt.

We need to scrap the stupid no interest on student loans, and a capital gain tax is needed to stop NZers borrowing to buy overpriced poorly built houses, and rise the superannuation age to 67 for a start.
The problem with the current government is that they aren't making the tough decisions. They are so bland.

WRONG, Labour signed into a deal that forced National to continue with them as the out would have cost more. Just like the Americas cup deal. Labour signed a deal making it more costly NOT to do it. How dishonest is that!? But it was typical of Helen. Dishonest and two faced. Literally lol.

And again you are forgetting the recession, something well outside control of the government. In fact it's due to the government that we have weathered it reallativly untouched compared to many other countries.

Also NZs wage growth during the labour reign was poor compared to Oz, and house prices more than doubled due to poor policies that favored investing in houses. With labour they managed to make a huge percentage of the population beneficiaries of some type with working for families, and beneficieries are their target market. As are students with their no interest student loan policies.
Some tough decisions do need to be made by the next government, with will likely be national going on current polls.

One thing that annoys me about Labour is how nasty all of their MPs are. (Seriously, that horrible Darien Fenton about the Mad Butcher.) They seem to expect that people should vote for them because John Key is richer than most of us.

Well most NZers aren't envious weirdos with a chip on our shoulders. That seems to be the vote that Labour is going after.

Basically, the major choices for most voters are: Greens or National.

Our Government (who ever it may have been) could do about as much about the impact of the GLOBAL recession on this country as an NRL ref at a rugby match.

And your Aussie cobbers were soo flat out digging up their back yard to send to China they didn't really have too much time to focus on it.
Although they did all stop to watch the Olympics on the new Flatcsreen teles' they had to race out and buy, with the money their government gave them to stimulate the economy to prevent the recession....

I was talking about the countries recession, rather than the global one. Not all countries entered a recession after the global one. My point was that if Labour had used all the surplus's to increase productivity, then we may have not entered one at all. National are not to blame for us entering the recession, it was largely just bad timing. If NZers weren't out there buying and selling overpriced houses to one another causing a huge bubble, while these rich overseas banks profited by lending us money, we would be far better off.
