I've had a few 4k's turn up recently. Here's a summary. Audio setup is 7.1.4.

Alien and Aliens. The inside of the Nostromo really comes alive in 4k. The detail is striking. The audio of Aliens is the standout, really exercising all the speakers.

Dune Part 1 and 2. I'm not a particular fan of the story but Denis Villeneuve is such a great movie maker that I will always watch whatever he produces. The cinematography and soundtrack are just overwhelming. Magnificent.

Sicario and Sicario 2. Villeneuve again for the first. The soundtrack of the first movie could be used as a reference to test out your home theatre. Helicopters all around you in some scenes and bullets flying everywhere. The second is OK as a movie but not in the same league.

The Creator. John David Washington stars in this sci-fi story that must have kept the CGI guys busy for months. Not particularly engaging story but the visuals and audio are stunning.

Unfrosted - 1/10 (Netflix)

My partner picked the movie last weekend, and boy was it a stinker!  I can't say I'm a fan of Jerry Seinfeld, and this movie didn't really change my opinion.  The story was incredibly juvenile and felt like it was written by a bunch of 11-year olds who have had humour described to them by an alien.  All the "jokes" were incredibly flat, and delivered by adults who seemed to be acting like children without any of the joy.  It really was unbelievably humourless.

The "plot" (such as it is) was about the invention of the "pop tart" by the cereal maker Kellogs.  I have no idea how much of the story was "accurate", and I really don't care. The characters were caricatures but not in any creative way.  The jokes that were forced on the audience were barely above the level of fart and poop jokes.  These can be amusing if done right, but that certainly wasn't the case here.

The only redeeming feature of this film is that it is not too long.  But honestly, just flush this turd.

Watched Demolition Man starring Sly Stallone and Wesley Snipes (co-starring a young Sandra Bullockas the cop assigned to partner Stallone and Dennis Leary as...well, um, Dennis Leary). It was on TV (can't remember which channel).

The premise is that it's the future and there is little to no violent crime and all violent criminals have been cryogenically frozen for their crimes, where they are re-educated subliminally.

Needless to say, Snipes (as the bad guy) escapes his frozen prison, so the new age cops, being clueless as to what to do when confronted with a murderous psycho, thaw out an old-fashioned cop (Stallone), who was imprisoned for something or other.

It's pretty bad. It has some classic scenes, such as the seashells, plus there are some interesting cameos from people who are not yet stars, like Rob Schneider. But overall it's poorly acted, has terrible CGI and the "future" is not really futuristic or believable enough.

8/10 I loved it. It's about the tenth time I have seen it since it was originally released. It's truly awful.

Saw Paint starring Owen Wilson on Neon.

The main character is physically based on the famous American TV painter Bob Ross.

The rest of the movie...well. Not, I assume.

It's quite an offbeat and odd movie, but is actually quite enjoyable for what it is.

We both found it amusing and it passed the time adequately on a wild and wet night.

7.5/10

I listened to a podcast about Kevin Costner which mentioned Bull Durham so I watched it tonight. Other than Tim Robbins god awful pitching it really is the perfect sports movie.

I think it is the most enjoyable film that Costners made. It's such a good time. Robert Wuhl is just a joy in it.

Watched Hit Man on Netflix last night.

An enjoyable watch.

It follws a man (based loosely on a true story) wo is a University lecrurer and moonlighting as a technician for the New Orleans police.
He ends up being asked to tag in as a fake Hit Man in a sting operation and it ends up being so successful that je takes the gig on on a more long-term basis.
He falls in love with one of the marks and talks her out of incriminating herself, then embarks on a successful career of fake-hit-mannery.

There are a number of good twists and turns and it's light enoughh to be considered a dramedy.

Supportuing cast are good, but the main character, played by Glen Powell is great.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt20215968/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_2_tt_8_nm_0_q_hitman

Worth a watch.

I listened to that podcast. I'm looking forward to seeing his western.

I liked all the movies he was in even Waterworld, Postman… I couldn’t watch Dances With Wolves again, too sad.

you have stumbled into the world of Uwe Bol, alone in the Dark is ranked quite highly of all his films , and there are a lot. so you cam imagine some are really bad and yet he still gets money to make them and quite big stars to appear in them.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Had a look at the new Beverly Hills Cop movie on Netflix last night while waiting for the sports to start. Really enjoyed it, great to see so many cast from the original movie reprise their roles. Can't believe how good Eddie Murphy still looks, he must be mid 60's now.

I also watched Beverley Hills Cop: Axel F on Netflix last night.
Really enjoyed it.

It was a quite seamless sequel - clearly many years after the original movies and not in any way an attempt to reboot the franchise. NO real changes to the format. Characters just older, but largely the same.
I loved the return of Serge (Achwel? Lemon Tweist?)
The soundtrack was very authentic, too.
It was like being back in the 80's all over again. Fun times.

We  also caught it on Saturday night. A great pizza night movie and a some fun nods back to the earlier films, and a little dig at Beverly Hills Cop III.  Highly recommended even if you've never seen the first two. Looks like Netflix is trying to complete the full set of films over the next couple of weeks.

agreed, this sequel is a pretty good "popcorn" film, pretty much does exactly what it says on the box,

Eddie M is 63,  and despite a bit heavier around the face he is pretty much the same Eddie we all know,

The others were showing their age (which was presumably why they had smaller chunks of screen time)

Paul Reiser is 68 and judge Reinhold is 67 and it showed, but Despite being 76 John Ashton was doing OK....

The original film came out in '84 ....  to put this in context this is what a new desktop computer looked like

PS I thought Kevin Bacon was not used enough,  He was so creepy/corrupted they really need to bulk his character up and give him some more space to act....

Could not agree more.

On another note - I also watched Freelance starring John Cena on Neon on Saturday night.

Another of those "feels like the 80's" kind of action flicks. It had humorous moments, good action sequences and a good chunk of John Cena being John Cena.

I was not expecting a couple of things from certain characters, so there was a bit of good writing in there.

Overall another good popcorn movie
