Outlander  - Prime Video

Starring Jim Caviezel and Sophia Myles, it's a story about a spaceman that crash lands in Viking territory on earth some time in the past.

It's pretty rubbish and I wish I hadn't wasted my time.

Come from Away (film) – Apple TV 10/10

This was recommended by a friend of a friend, and it is great. The filming of a stage play was impressive, the use of minimal set design was impressive, the actors playing multiple characters was impressive, the choreography was impressive, the true story was compelling and our whole family enjoyed watching it.

Wikipedia: Come from Away is a 2021 musical film comprising a live stage recording of Irene Sankoff and David Hein's 2017 musical of the same name, which tells the true story of 7,000 airline passengers who were stranded in the small town of Gander in Newfoundland, where they were housed and welcomed, after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The film, produced in response to the shutdown of Broadway caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, was directed by Christopher Ashley and filmed in front of an audience that included frontline workers and 9/11 survivors in May 2021 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater in New York City, featuring members of the Broadway cast.

House of Dynamite agree with Nzkc previous page, to repetitive 4/10, as the ending seemed pointless to me as well.

It did have a suspenseful story, but same story kept repeating from another persons perspective, but hear same words said over and over.

Companion, I was expecting a horror but it had some good surprises in it so I enjoyed it a lot more than thought would.

A robot companion in excluded house in woods starts killing everyone, is what is shown in trailers but there is a bit more to it. 8/10.

House of Dynamite  5/10

Made me want to re-watch Fail Safe again.

:D

Del Toro's Frankenstein 9/10

Right up there with the James Whale originals.

Del Toro's Frankenstein was good, probably a 7.5/10.

Watched French Lover tonight. Not a bad romcom. French, English subtitles. 6/10.

Good Fortune 5/10

A well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker and a wealthy venture capitalist.

Keanu Reeves & Seth Rogen. This was not good. Keanu Reeves, revives his Ted persona from the Bill & Ted franchise and uses it for his angel character, NOPE. Seth Rogen just plays Seth Rogen. Very disjointed written script.

The red wine 🍷 smoothed things over. Speaking of Ho Hum things. With the movie, I tried the new Domino's Flavours of New Zealand - Kiwi Feast 🍕. Even with the addition of olives and chilli it was quite, well, boring really. I will stick to my Godfather with chilli 🍕 added.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Finally got around to watching One Battle After Another.

Nearly 3 hours but it's so well paced you don't notice the running time, there's no padding.

Director Paul Thomas Anderson coaxes great performances from the cast, especially Leo and Sean Penn.

It bumps Frankenstein off the #1 spot in my book.

9/10

Frankenstein on Netflix. It was pretty good, but not my favourite version of the tale.

I really enjoyed "House of Dynamite". It's realistic, it's high tension, it's compelling, and it asks questions without providing an answer. It's full of complex characters who for a change behave like humans. There's an issue or two with the timeline, but that aside - it was really enjoyable.

Predator: Badlands at Hoyts 8/10

My wife and I both really enjoyed this. I liked the setting and the creatures on the planet that the predator encountered as they were interesting and well made. The overall visuals and look was really good. Seven visual effects companies involved including Weta FX and ILM.

Wikipedia: “According to Trachtenberg, every shot of the film required visual effects work”

Filmed in NZ.

My wife likened it to the Guardians of the Galaxy format which I agree with the use of a group forming, comedy and ........ well, go see it.

Making it an R13 means a broader range of appeal and still enough action/gore to still keep the Predator feel.

Hated the price of entry and price of food. I so need to just BYO now and stop complaining. My fault for approaching the counter and ordering.

Mickey 17 on Neon. I enjoyed it, quite a lot more than I thought I would.

Gran Tourismo on Netflix. Based on a true story. A bit cheesy, but fairly good. Stars Davis Harbour and Orlando Bloom. Co-stars Geri Halliwell and Djimoun Hounsou who are both underused.

Nurenberg.

Watched it yesterday morning with my wife and daughter. We all liked it. A good film and well acted.

Highly recommend it.

Note:   There are some scenes of the bodies in the death camps, but most people have probably seen similar ones before.

The Running Man 2025

Stop remaking classic Arnie films !

This was awful, easily Edgar Wright's worse film ever

Zero redemption - no great visuals, meh sound, far too long at 2+ hours.

2/10

Honey Don't 2025

Ethan Cohen goes solo, writing and directing this meandering mess,

At 89min it's 29min too long,

Not even the lesbian tryst between Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza can save this,

Please Ethan get back with Joel  !

3/10

The Age of Disclosure

Every few years we get some earth shaking doco on the secret multi-national conspiracy keeping the truth about UFOs (now called UAP because not all of them fly) from the public.

This doco offers the same old talking heads format with zero evidence.

Recycled, repackaged, pap.

2/10

Spinal Tap II

Marti and the boys are back.

Nice cameos from Paul McCartney and Elton John

The amp no longer goes to 11 but an enjoyable watch nonetheless,

6.5/10

Oh. What. Fun.

Tried to watch a new Christmas movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Denis Leary, Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dominic Sessa & Jason Schwartzman.

Think Home Alone but instead the mum gets left behind then goes on a road trip.

Not fun. Great cast and some funny moments but this wont be a new Christmas classic.

5/10

The Running Man (2025)

As a child of the 80s I am such a fan of Arnie's 80s movies, so I guess nothing could live up to my nostalgic expectations, and it didn't really.

Even though this version is much closer to Stephen King’s original story it just didn't capture me. I got all the media manipulation stuff, and Glen Powell plays his role well.

Would be interested to know what the current generation of teens/young adults who have never seen the 80s version think of it.

Overall, it’s a passable watch.

6/10
