gehenna:

Someone was watching me in the public toilet while I was journalling my kidney disease symptoms as requested by my specialist.  Society is doomed.

Are you being serious or just coming up with an edge case to justify the urinating phone user?

It's only January and I think I've found the worse film of the year  :)

Luc Besson's latest fail... Dracula A Love Tale.

Imagine Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula remade by Asylum

😄

1/10

Finally saw Predator - Badlands.

Mixed feelings - it's a lighter than previous episodes, this is a G-rated Predator.

And the Predator talks !

Disappointing after Prey and Killer of Killers

:(

6.5/10

Greyhound (2020) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6048922/

9/10 - totally captivating and some outstanding performances. Tom Hanks is incredible, but so is Stephen Graham as his XO.

Wicked for Good: I guess someone out there enjoyed it? Sure wasnt me!  It was just a braindead movie in general.  Songs werent catchy, story was about as riveting as watching my cat lick her butt.  1/10

Spinal Tap 2: Meh..  It had its moments.  Wasnt the worst, wasnt the best.  Could have done with cowbells (yes I know there were none in the original!)  3/10

The Running Man:  Wasnt bad.  Wasnt great but it was entertaining. I barely remember the original but I think this was a good revamp 6/10

Tron Ares:  It was a reasonable continuation of the tron universe.  Bit like the terminator movies, first few were good, the rest were just additions.  6/10

Now you see me now you dont: First movie was better, this one was entertaining at least.  6/10

Black Phone 2:  Interesting "origins" of the first movie.  Not particularly scary for a horror. Then again the original was more creepy.  6/10

The Long Walk:  Was actually quite enjoyable. Was predictable (well there was only ever going to be one person left!) 7/10

Tonight Im off to see the new Avatar in 3D.  Am I expecting much? Nope. I found the last one a little boring. Hopefully this one will be better.

I haven't seen any of the Avatar movies. They just don't feel appealing to me.

I sort of liked the first one all those years ago - 3D made it much better than it was!  Tonight wasnt my choice, I had to choose from Avatar or Anaconda.  I was told since we had seen the other two Avatar movies we should really see the next.  It'll be my one movie outing for the year..

Went to see Nuremberg at a theatre. A family member had been and was raving about it. Thought it was good - but not great. Thought Russell Crowe was great but Remi Malik was totally miscast - not a good performance from him IMO. As much as I like his acting he seemed like a square peg in a round hole here.

Rant time. I wanted to see Nuremberg but I couldn't get over Rami Malek. I've got a list of "do not waste time on" actors - Wahlberg, Corden, Eisenberg, Rogen, Cera and Malek. Malek is simply not a good actor. He has a single shtick that wears old very quickly - a couple of seasons of Mr. Robot is all it takes. He's been pretty dismal in everything else he's been in since then. Him winning an Oscar for his unconvincing impersonation of Freddie Mercury can be added to a long list of reasons of why people care less and less about academy awards. Thanks for listening. Rant over.

Completely agree about Malik he is awful  in anything he does and that includes talk shows.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

The Housemaid 7/10

Bit of a slow start and then gets downright nutty. Great performances by all, Sydney lifts her game in the 2nd half. Overall quite enjoyable.

I would agree with this.  I saw it with my partner last week and had the rare experience of seeing a film without having first researched it to death or even watched the trailer beforehand.  I thought it was really good fun (in a pretty disturbing way).  Despite a pretty long run time, it was paced really well and the story unfolds in a very engaging way.  It's not high theatre by any means, but as a psychological thriller it's decently entertaining.

The twist isn't super surprising, though I didn't quite call it.  The core cast do a good job with their characters.  It seems to be set up for a sequel - I believe it's based on a book of which there are three in the series(?) I think they might ruin it if they tried to turn it into a franchise though.  It's nice when a film pleasantly surprises you, but that evaporates when it subsequently gets milked for all its worth.

I'd give it a solid 8/10.

Avatar Fire & Ash - 5/10

If you liked the previous ones you'll like it... I found it was way too long (197 minutes) meaning I was in the cinema pushing 4 hours including the crap at the beginning - I think they could have cut an hour out of it quite easily.  It was the same story line..  Blah blah blah epic battle.  If they do a fourth movie I bet it would be the same model.  The 3D was ok but didnt really add to it - I guess the novelty wore off years ago - who else remembers how wow 3D was waaaay back when the first one came out!

It was good to see a movie where the whole thing wasn't in the trailer.

The last time I experienced that would've been Barbarian, which I really enjoyed.
