Primate - typical animal horror, with "whoa" graphic killing scenes.

6/10

Was a couple of younger guys seated behind us, and one scene could hear them going "oh no, the monkey isn't going to do what we think he is....." - funny thing, wife and I were thinking exact same thing ;) You'll know the scene when you see it ;)

Tried watching Tron: Ares

The movie itself is probably quite good, but the soundtrack made it unwatchable.
Nine Inch Nails did the score and it's overwhelming, underwhelming and quite off-putting.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Really liked it. Definitely better than the second installment. It's a very classic who done it that is elevated by the fantastic Josh O'Connor and Glen Close but is hindered by some badly miscast roles (ahem, Renner).

Just don't think too hard about it - the hindsighted plotholes will ruin it for you.

Just watched Companion starring Jack Quaid

A fun and somewhat bloody comedy/thriller about a man who takes his girlfriend on a weekend away with friends and it all goes awry.

Imo the original was good only because it used computer tech concepts before those concepts were widely known. I seem to recall the 80's iceblock in NZ until the 90's. The second movie seemed a bit lame for that reason. I haven't seen the third. Watching all three in a row might be entertaining, one day.

“The Man in the High Castle“ 4 seasons in a row. 🥱 So, the film Nazis had even more discipline there than the real Nazis. 🤣

The new now you see me movie. I really enjoyed it. The second wasn't as good, but third was quite entertaining. My whole family enjoyed it.  8/10

Watched The Substance over the weekend. It had some compelling ideas about beauty, age and what the public expects to see on screen. The ending was a let down, it turned into an early Peter Jackson gorefest movie instead of finishing on a thought provoking note. 5/10 but only because most of the movie was decent.

28 Years Later (2025)

Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award®-nominated writer Alex Garland reunite for 28 Years Later, a terrifying new "auteur horror" story set in the world created by 28 Days Later. It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

As Zombie movies go, this was okay. Lots of gruesome scenes as you would expect from this type of movie and good pacing with plenty of action. The film held my interest well enough, and I will probably catch the sequel... 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which has just been released in NZ cinemas. 7/10

Operation Napoleon (8/10), Icelandic,

eagerly awaiting the second part at the end of this year. There are now some really good Nordic and European international films.

The Wrecking Crew - Dumb, predictable, and full of plot holes - but fairly watchable any way. Set in Hawaii but filmed in both Hawaii and New Zealand, so loads of New Zealanders trying to do accents to various levels of success. Over the top graphic violence, but these days they do all the blood etc with bad CGI instead of the far superior practical effects of yesteryear, and these scenes really suffer as a result. 5/10

Thanks. We like some Icelandic cinema here.

One of my sons' friends worked on this movie.

I have been wondering when it would come out. And on which platform.

Prime Video

EDIT: I note that both critic and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes for The Wrecking Crew are more generous to it than I was. But I stand by my rating.
