When the tig welder decrees that my amateur inputs are acceptable enough to produce a good looking weld :) This has yet to happen this evening, but if it does I'll definitely smile!

When the captain asks passengers to disembark because the engine won't start (happened to me today). Made me realise how much nicer "technical difficulty" sounds to an aviation layperson like me.

(we got back on 30 minutes later and flew to destination like there wasn't a problem, other than a couple of apologies from captain and crew during the flight for delay)

Knowing that my Monster In Law is going home tomorrow....the most stressful six weeks I have had in years is coming to an end. Hurrah!

I've been helping my 4-year old daughter learn to ride the bike she got for Christmas. Yesterday she managed to pedal by herself for a few metres (big improvement over last time we tried) and the smile on her face nearly split her head in two. Brought a huge smile to my face too...

My 6 Year old daugher playing laser strike yesterday for the first time ever. Game 1 3900 points, game 2 10900 points. To give some reference to that I have played lots of times and I got 12500 and my wife got 12000 points.

Home made Lightly smoked and slow cooked Lamb Shoulder, served with new potatoes out of our "garden" and Home made Babaganoush and Chunky Tzatziki with lots of Dill. Plenty of leftovers for what became pretty amazing Sandwiches.

It's a good feeling... I nailed my perfect smoked-then-charcoal-grilled steak on saturday.

Smoked for 30 minutes (big red-gum smoke) then 3 minutes a side over some hot charcoal. All in the same $59 bunnings charcoal grill.

For the first time ever, I have successfully repaired a zipper. This is much harder than it seems. I have tried in the past, and failed. I am not talking about replacing one, but actually repairing the little metal bit that brings the two sides together and interlocks them. The hardest part is putting that bit back on and getting it to start zipping. Somehow I managed it. I am ridiculously chuffed.

I am currently giggling like a maniac after reading this story:

Many years ago, I worked as an operator (aka, glorified backup weenie) for a large retail chain.

The boss had recently installed a new CD-ROM drive into the primary file server (486/66 running Novell 2.23, I believe), an NEC with a funky bezel. After the installation, the cover wouldn't close correctly.

A few days later, I scoot up to the desk to run a particular backup and my knee hits the cover on the server. I don't notice anything in particular and keep working. About thirty seconds later, the boss comes running into the room in a complete panic, saying the server is down.

Twenty minutes later, the server is back up and I'm feeling like a total heel. While boss is on the phone letting the various department heads know that the server is back up, he spins in his chair and his knee hits the server. Down it goes.
