Got some cheap tickets and decided to go and see Avatar: Fire and Ash at the local theatre yesterday.

Glad we were at a Hoyts that had been recently refurbished, as the seats were clean, comfortable and (as always) recliners.

First and foremost (for those that haven't seen it), this is a LONG movie. Don't have a drink for the three days preceding it and certainly not WHILE you're watching it.

This movie is officially 197 minutes long. It's a real commitment.

It doesn't feel different enough from the others to warrant the length or the hype, but as a fan of Avatar, I did enjoy it. My wife, less so.

There are the usual underlying (or maybe overt) "be kind to the earth, be kind to one another, war and conflict are dumb and we are all the same under the skin" themes, which are to be expected.

The real issue I had with this movie was that there seemed to be a few stories going at once and it became a little difficult to remain fully focused on the main storyline, whilst still remaining engaged with the subplots. It's also been such a long time between movies that I had forgotten how some of the newer characters actually fitted in.

As a fan, I rate it fairly highly, but if you're on the fence, this might be a tough watch.

Ahh Zardoz, the movie 30 years ahead of Borat, but with an even better sense of fashion...

(But hey, its Connery in a loincloth and thigh length boots.. so its great for a whirl)...

I believe Connery did this movie to get away from the 007 Bond type cast. Read somewhere that Zardoz is to Sean Connery what Jane Fonda is to Barbarella.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Yeah, although Zardoz probably wasn't the greatest star to hitch his wagon to, and he slipped back into the lure of the Bond paycheck a few years later with the "unauthorised" Never say Never...

However, he then found a few roles that he was able to lean into a bit more,  including in The Highlander, The Name of the Rose , Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October .  and he won an Oscar for the Untouchables,

Copshop , Netfix
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5748448/

I'll give it a solid 8/10 .
Well acted, good characters , very entertaining .
A guy is in a county Police lockup , contract killers are sent to kill him.

Ooh...will have to have a look at that one.

I've just watched Predator: Badlands over the weekend on D+.

Elle Fanning plays an android or two and a Kiwi of Tongan/Samoan descent named Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi plays the main Predator.

Quite apart from this being the least bloodthirsty Predator movie I have ever seen, it's quite entertaining for what it is (if not entirely predictable).

It's obviously got a good budget and the SFX are quite good. The story is fairly generic, but that's OK for me.
It's rate R13, so take that into account when watching this - it's clearly not an action/horror.

Also - I know there's been quite a bit of crossover in the last few years, but when did the worlds of Alien and Predator become so completely intertwined? Weyland Yutani Corp are everywhere in this movie - and they are 100% from the Alien universe.

Watched the new Jason Momoa/Dave Bautista action flick The Wrecking Crew on Prime.

I really enjoyed it.

It's mindless and fun and violent and reminded me of the 80's action flicks I used to really enjoy.

It's not for everyone, but if you want to take your brain out and watch a bit of mindless fun, this could be your bag.

The Wrecking Crew was a rarity,

Back on the streams we have more of the same old crap...

The Bluff.. pirates after hidden gold with Karl Urban and the Indian actress off Citadel... surprisingly violent, dreck  3/10

Urban is also in the new mortal Kombat

Shelter... the latest Jason Staham no-brainer... formulaic but OK shoot 'em up  5/10

Hellfire... Stephan Lang solo... wasted actor, so forgettable, go watch Sisu 2 instead  2/10

Mercy... not a Chris Platt fan but this was OK, takes a while to get moving but quite enjoyable 6/10

That is a sizeable spoiler, but I suppose it's far enough after it came out, and it has been in the media a lot recently for awards.

Yeah, I knew what it was about before the movie came out, simply from the extended trailers.

And when you add in the stuff they have shown in the awards season buildup, I don't think there's any spoilers to be seen here.

Have been off sick over the last few days of last week, so have seen a few movies online.

War Machine - Scifi movie that's pretty predictable, but watchable enough. Plenty of mild gore to keep the more bloodthirsty satisfied.

The Phoenician Scheme - typical Wes Anderson stuff. You either like his films or you don't. I do.

Jay Kelly - Starring Adam Sandler and George Clooney. Tight drama that highlights what a good dramatic actor Adam Sandler can be. George Clooney plays George Clooney.

Companion - I'd spoil it if I said anything.

I enjoyed War Machine , it reminded me more of the old 80's/90's style action movie where action was the key and script etc not so much, predictable but entertaining

Greenland / Greenland 2:  I thought Greenland was the better movie but both were watchable.
War Machine: Was about what I expected.  It was enjoyable, nothing much script wise or any real twists, just a typical action movie.
Hamnet: i tried to watch it but was just bored.  Apparently it got better after I went to watch TV in my room
Sinners:  It wasnt bad, it wasnt fantastic like the reviews say.  I enjoyed it to a degree
Predator Badland: It was interesting. A bit of a different take on the Predator movies.
