Project Hail Mary; a solid adaption of the book; and enjoyable enough, although clearly Ryan Gosling has ZERO idea about how glasses should be worn; the way they were hanging off his face for half the movie I actually found quite distracting...

8/10

Send Help (2026)

Dark Comedy/Action/Thriller

When two business colleagues (Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien) become stranded on a deserted island as the only survivors of a plane crash, they must overcome past grievances and work together to stay alive. But they’re not in the office anymore, and an unsettling, wryly humorous battle of wills and wits begins in this original, darkly comedic psychological thriller.

Loved this film. A good mix of action, comedy, drama and suspense. Rachel McAdams is an actress that you just get used to see popping up in lots of movies without really assessing her performance, because, to me, she is always excellent.

Along with Dylan O'Brien (Maze Runner) as her castaway companion, she manages to pull off a real Jekyll and Hide performance here. I just wish that

but apart from that, I was well entertained, and I am pleased to give the film a score of 8/10

GOAT 8/10

A small goat with big dreams gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join the pros and play roarball, a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world.

We thoroughly enjoyed this animated movie of Daniel and Goliath characters. Well animated, with a good story line and character development.

Predator Bad Lands 7.5/10

Kept putting off watching this, wish I watched it sooner. Read a lot of comments about it's not a true Predator movie and I can see why people say that but if anything I think it gave it its charm. Not all Predators are going to be the same. Elle Fanning was a good watch, didn't know what to expect there but she surprised me. It was a good watch.

Mike + Nick + Nick + Alive (on Disney+)

Time travelling gangster heist with Vince Vaughan and James Marsden.

Ok way to pass the time - some weird and out of place but mildly funny scenes and lines. Reminds of the "old" comedy flicks like Games Night, Harold & Kumar, Horrible Bosses etc... but with gangsters and guns.

The thing I don't like about predator movies are jump scares. Is it heavy in that area?

War Machine 6/10 Netflix

I agree with most of your comments, and I would score it the same, 6/10. But, I did have a great time with the soundtrack. Anyone with a decent sound system will have a ball with this Dolby Atmos track, it's intense. Looks like there may be a sequel.

How to Make a Killing 6/10

Disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, a blue-collar will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way.

A very Ho Hum movie. It can not make up its mind whether it is a serious thriller, comedy thriller or I don't know what. The lead, Glen Powell, I forgot he had a very cheesy grin. I believe he was/is even considered for the next James Bond - Hope Not.

Any way don't rush to see it.

Nobody 2 8/10 Netflix

Suburban dad Hutch Mansell, a former lethal assassin, whilst on vacation with his wife and teenage family is pulled back into his violent past after his son defends his younger sister at an amusement park owned by criminals, setting off a deadly chain of events.

Though with this movie franchise, of 2 with more to follow I'm sure, each movie is a stand-alone story, I would watch the first movie Nobody for which I also gave 8/10 this is on Prime and 🍎TV, just to get a primer. In this first movie a docile family man slowly reveals his true character after his house gets burgled by two petty thieves, which, coincidentally, leads him into a bloody war with a Russian crime boss.

⚠️ Lots of violence, blood and gore. Though the body count isn't quite up to John Wick totals, the standards are still high.

We thoroughly enjoyed these two movies and hope the standard remains if they make move.

I kept wondering how I already knew the plot then realised I had read the book. Faithful adaptation.

Project Hail Mary - 8/10

First up, I haven't read the book.  I went in knowing very little about the film - I think I vaguely knew it was based on a book, I'd heard it was set in space, and that it was getting good reviews.  It was a rare treat to go into a film with few preconceptions and just enjoy it on its merits.

I really enjoyed it.  I quite like Ryan Gosling - he has an easy-going sense of humour that is refreshing, and he was able to pitch the humour here at just the right level.  The pace of the film is good, and it reveals its story quite nicely.  Rocky brings a lot of heart to a CGI character as well.

The rest of the cast are, I think, deliberately flat and monotone, to give the foreground to a very minimal main cast.  Where another film might have taken the opportunity to make everyone goofy, they are there just to provide the canvas against which Ryan Gosling can project his performance.

Would recommend.

EXTRACTION 2 (Netflix)

Chris Hemsworth is Tyler Rake in Extraction 2, the sequel to Netflix's blockbuster action film Extraction. Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

I saw Extraction on Netflix a couple of years ago, and, as an action fan, I thought that it was excellent. Having read that there is to be a third film in the franchise, I decided to view the second film, aptly named Extraction 2, and it's a cracking watch. Pretty much action throughout, with lots of over-the-top combat, of which one scene in particular is pure action gold. Chris Hemsworth is the perfect fit for the role of mercenary/commando; Tyler Rake. I really enjoyed this one. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack is exceptional. 8.5/10.
