kiwifidget:Had an MRI today and was asked what music I would like to listen to.

Pink Floyd was my reply, secretly hoping that I would slide in to "Welcome to the machine".

Didnt happen, but wasnt unhappy to hear "Comfortably Numb" coming through the headphones as my field of vision rapidly diminished.

Wow that is a fast MRI! Mine usually are long enough to hear a significant part of an album. Last one was 2382 images from memory.

Hope the result was what you wanted.

I normally just ask for Magic Radio, but it gets drowned out by all the noise the MRI makes. Rather a noisy blue tunnel they slide you into.

Could have been a lot worse, glad they didn't play "Brain Damage".

When they presented you with the bill, did they play "Money "?

The guy in this NZH story today  should have asked for Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers.

@msukiwi nah, it took ages, and then they didnt get all the imaging they needed so I have to go back in a couple of weeks to redo it.

Not helped by firstly, their equipment being poorly arranged around my left arm, then them accusing me of having my right hand over the equipment when it wasnt, being pulled out and having everything re-arranged, still not right so in and out again, then slid back in in a really awkward position which gave me cramp in my leg after a while and then they ran out of time.

The earlier MRI for my neck and shoulder went like a dream, but my arm is proving to be difficult. Apparently for an arm you normally go in with your arm extended straight past your head, but I can barely move my arm at all so trying to do it with arm by my side, but its all a bit narrow in there for that.

@k1w1k1d I asked several times for the volume to be turned up, though the noise doesnt bother me, a nice break from the tinnitus.

@septicsceptic Southern Cross, but I'm unsure how the whole repeat MRI thing is going to play out financially.

@eracode I did see that in the news when I got home, and marveled at how life lets you know things could have been worse.

I remember being asked if I had ever had any metal fragments in my eyes that possibly could still be there. I shudder to think what damage a small speck of metal dust could do behind your eye.

Indeed. I mean, you would know wouldnt you, if you had metal bits in your eye??

Perhaps you should be made to walk through a metal detector before going into an MRI machine, just in case.

Maybe MRI machines should be at airports.

I'm not sure how well they work. I also have what could be described as "a large metallic chain" but it's never set off an airport metal detector. I'm sure the sensitivity can be adjusted, but I doubt they can pick up tiny fragments.

If they send a copy of the scan to your doctor its a great idea !  :-)

Buy an Airline ticket and get a free MRI, could be a winning sales drive.

If you are doing a bit of 'Medical Tourism' even better.

Mrs Handle and the mini Handles are currently on holiday in Sri Lanka. This is the second year they have gone there and we have a guy we use to arrange drivers.

The driver didn't show up this morning. We got hold of our guy and the response was:

I'm sorry, I made a mistake and got the days mixed up. I will get someone to you in 20 minutes.

The driver was there in 15 minutes.

No lies, no excuses just honesty and great service fixing a problem. While we live in Dubai we'll keep going back to Sri Lanka and using this guy. This was so consistent with our experiences in Sri Lanka, it's a wonderful place with really great people.

My flight from Doha to Auckland has starlink. Getting 200Mbps on a flight is well impressive.

Fifty years ago this week, I left Auckland with a friend (who’s still my best mate) on the Italian passenger liner SS Guglielmo Marconi for a seven week cruise to Italy as the start of our OE. In 1975 most OE people still went by ship rather than flying. There were about 25 of us 20-ish year-old Kiwis on the ship. So much fun.

Prior to boarding the ship we went to the Akarana Tavern, across the road from the Overseas Passenger Terminal, for farewell drinks with family and friends.

In the pub I bumped into a female colleague of mine. She introduced me to a lovely friend of hers. The friend was also going on the ship to start her OE - with another friend of hers (who is still one of her best friends). They were also having farewell drinks.

The friend and I got to know each other pretty well on the ship and ended up spending our OE travelling together - often along with our original travelling friends.

This month we celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary - and they say shipboard romances don’t last.

@eracode congratulations to you both!

Funnily enough, my parents met on a cruise. They've been married 61 years.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
