Watched Greenland 2: Migration on Saturday afternoon, whilst lying in bed sick. Available on Prime Video.
Wanted something where I could watch without thinking and this did the trick.

It's a few years after the original Greenland movie - the world is still being hit by meteors after the initial strike that buggered the world.

Things get to the point where the Butler family (I don't remember their character's names), make a move and go looking for the veritable Shangri La.

If you suspend belief, don't expect much and don't mind a typical Gerard Butler action/disaster flick, this will do you nicely.

Recently watched some films on 4kUHD and was disappointed by how little improvement there was over existing BluRay versions,

John Wick

The Accountant

Atomic Blonde

Common factor was these were all 2k upsamples and not native 4k films

Just watched Minions & Monsters and it's so disappointing

Normally it's a good laugh but this is just milking the franchise...not sure if AI wrote the script, but certainly disappointed

The Odyssey - Reading New Lynn Titan XC 8.5/10

I organised a group of 8 work colleagues and we all enjoyed it. It was not quite what I expected so some aspects/scenes surprised me in a good way. Strong performances with Matt Damon the stand out for me. So pleased with the physical effects and the control with use of CGI.

Sound was disappointing, pretty sue it was the sound mix rather than the venue, as I have been a few time to the Titan XC and it has been amazing for sound. It was hard to hear the audio for the fist 1/4 of the movie and then the action was over emphasized and very loud. Sometime the loudness was great e.g. a storm sequence that along with the very large screen made it feel very intense like it should. Amazing visuals on such a big screen with some really nice location shots, wide shots etc that were really nice.

No hesitation to see again with my wife.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film. I thought the cyclops was done very well, except in the original story he does actually talk to Odysseus. Every telling is for a new generation, the importance of maintaining Zeus's law was repeatedly made, however Zeus's law seems to have been a rather selfish one, just in case he visited the earth in man-form.

I did prefer Brian Cox as Agamemnon in Troy rather than this Sauron-like chap.

I was fortunate to recently see David Wenham in An Iliad which made a nice pairing with this.

Heartstopper Forever (the movie) on Netflix. Based on the books by Alice Oseman.

This is the follow on from the 3 season (24 episodes) Heartstopper on Netflix

In this the movie Nick and Charlie are in love, but new challenges lay ahead with Nick getting ready to leave for university and Charlie taking on new responsibilities at school.

What can I add that I have not already stated in my two previous posts. #2908796 30-Apr-2022 and #3306683 7-Nov-2024. This, the movie wraps it all up concerning the main characters. The one downside with the movie was that the actors had definitely aged. 22 & 23-year-olds playing 18-year-old roles was very noticeable.

I repeat! This is a must view series and movie for all adolescences and parents struggling with gender identity and OCD & Eating Disorders. It has all been handled brilliantly.

Combine this with the miniseries Tip Toe which I review here: #3502820 14-Jun-2026. With the two you have some fabulous viewing.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Since you already mentioned the plot in the original movie, the killer asteroid hits near Europe.

Greenland makes sense for the "Greenland" movie plot, because it's near the US. Less so for physics. I'm not even sure it makes sense even for a family in Georgia wanting short term survival, like a month.

The distance from fictional European impact, New Zealand is one of the best places on Earth for agriculture, climate stability, population, geopolitics, and blast propagation. But it would mess up the plot.

If the impact is in Europe, NZ is almost on the opposite side of the planet.
Distance matters because shockwaves dissipate with distance, ejecta falloff is lower, and tsunami risk is lower. Geothermal regions don't hurt either, for warmth and energy.

NZ’s Southern Alps and ocean buffer reduce shockwave intensity. Greenland’s flat ice sheet offers no shielding.

So for humanity's last and only hope picking Greenland is bad choice. Greenland has almost no arable land. It's climate that becomes instantly non‑viable if sunlight drops even slightly. Lastly it has zero capacity to feed millions of survivors.

If they wanted to keep the movie in starting in Georgia, US, Chile or Argentina would make some sense.

A wrinkle is the Darién Gap, the jungle between Panama and Colombia is impossible to drive through it.

So a blue water cruising sailboat (powered open ocean) would be a good idea. However since the family starts from Georgia, they would need to bypass the Panama Canal, and start from the Pacific (likely Panama canal closure). And getting late to the party at California ports would be very bad; e.g. best boats already gone.

If it was me, starting in Georgia, with a European asteroid strike, drive to Mobile Alabama, get deisel trawler, shrimper, to Yucatán to Caribbean to Brazil/Uruguay. But the movie would be more boring.

You could add pirates, and subtract the very cliched clogged roads in plot points either way.

I love the quality of reviews here where people not only critique the plot holes but offer alternative plot lines with supporting evidence.

"Project Hail Mary". I gave up after an hour and a half. A buddy comedy with an alien side kick. Ryan Gosling, who under better circumstances shouldn't have had a career to speak of due to his lack of acting ability is trying his best to emulate the mix of optimism and stoicism that worked so well for Matt Damon in "The Martian". I might be turning into an old cynical bastard but this was shallower than a Bestway rubber pool, and revoltingly saccharine at that.

Movie/TV series pitch: a nuclear war erupts in the Northern Hemisphere, and while the Southern hemisphere doesn't have to deal with the nuclear fallout, it still has to deal with the refugee fallout. The viewpoint alternates between NZ, Australia, Southeast Asia, South Africa, and South America.

When you here about famous actors dying you think 'Oh that's sad' and move on. For some reason Sam Neill's death affected me a lot more.

It was less about the movies he was in, it was more about him being such a good bastard and we all deserved a few more good years with him on this planet.
