This herald column comparing Scott Robertson to Luxon. It's both clever and pretty accurate.

That finally at Midnight last night, I got my Brother DCP-L3551CDW printer working with the latest "compatible" toner.

It needed a "battery chip" on the toner to work, not just a chip. Transferred from old toner to new, did a power off and on and away it went.

It is 5 years old so use compatible toners.

Apple. Signing off an email I luckily noticed that instead of Regards, it autocorrected to Regrets. Caught it a couple of times now. Who knows how many people I have offended.

The older you are the more appropriate it would be.

Getting a new spring for my swiss army scissors. Yay, I can more easily attack the foot talons.

Couple of things making me smile this week:

Fitted some nifty new bits to my bike that have made me very happy.

Also got a new microwave to replace the old faithful we had for about 25 years.
While the old one still worked it was underpowered and also a bit unreliable...occasionally making more noise than microwaves.
New one makes me smile because of the amount of automated and intelligent features it has. And it is so quiet...

I only use about three buttons on our fancy microwave; 1 min, 10 sec, start.

I don't bother setting mine. The newer one just shows the : if not set, the old one would stay on 12:00 which was annoying.

The new Microwave that I mentioned earlier is making me smile again.

It's an LG.

LG have a smart home app. I have added the microwave to the app. It needed a name.
So now I have three LG appliances, all of which have names in the app:

  • Angus (washing machine)
  • Bruce (microwave)
  • Doug (dishwasher)

Only the washing machine is properly "smart" and connected to the internet, but all three have the ability to connect to the app via "tap" from a smartphone.

Manuals, warranty registration etc all reside within the app and the ability to update firmware, perform diagnosis etc.

Pretty cool.
