Built my new BBQ on Saturday.
Was a solo effort, building my first Weber gas BBQ.

I have to say, whilst it's quite daunting opening the box and finding around 100 new boxes to open and parts to assemble, their instructions are incredibly detailed, really intuitive and make the whole process way easier than you'd think.
All boxes are marked with symbols or letters, all hardware is individually packaged with a letter in a conjoined set of plastic bags (think lolly bags that haven't been separated in a conveyer).

The instructions are pictorial, with the number of "A" or "B" you'll need to complete the step.

One tool required - a Phillips screwdriver.

It really did make me smile with satisfaction at the end. Unfortunately, I was too knackered at the end of the three hour build to cook on it. Which also made me smile...somewhat ironically.

EDIT: The other thing from this that made me smile - Mitre10 took all of the packaging, including the 50 cubic metres of cardboard and all soft plastics back, to recycle.

There was a lot to smile about over the weekend.

Both my kids won most improved squash players for their school. My son is almost certainly going to have moved up 5 grades of squash in a calendar year, multiple times having been recognised for his fair play and good spirit when playing.

Cook Cartel, a professional BBQ competition team in NZ took out the world championships this weekend.

Bathurst was quite an incredible watch.  4 Great matches of Rugby (NPC Quarter Finals).

Building a new BBQ with my Son.

....

Can relate.  Going to venture into some charcoal barbecuing/smoking and on advice from one of my wife's colleagues procured a Matador Radiant Kettle BBQ, as well as an Inkbird fan controller.

The one thing I was least looking forward to was having to make a 32mm hole in the porcelain enamel kettle for the fan, only to find upon unpacking it that it already has a fan inlet ( and a blanking plate for those going fanless).  Nowhere on the Bunnings website, the Matador website, nor in the online manual does it mention this.

Straight-forward assembly complete a couple of hours later, so smiles all round. Sadly, and those of you in Wellington will be able to attest, the weather didn't exactly lend itself to BBQing so that will have to wait  (forecast not looking flash for this coming w/e either).

Daughter, wife, and I went for an enjoyable walk around the Christchurch Botanic Gardens yesterday morning. Lovely to see all the flowers and trees in full spring bloom. Quite a few family's out enjoying the gardens on a nice sunny day.

Can definitely concur. I was working for a few weeks in Chch two weeks ago now, and spent as much time as I could in the gardens, just soaking it in. I won't see anything that green, except for a particular shade of lime, for nearly six months now!

The payment and fuel dispensing at U-Go pumps - incredibly simple and user-friendly.

I used to think the system used by Gull was quite good - but U-Go has less than half as many steps and thus takes less than half as long from start until the fuel is available to pump. eg. You don’t need to select pump number and fuel type - the pump detects what you do. Really very good.

Ooo, exciting.

Antarctica is one of the few places I am actually interested in going.  But probably won't end up doing so for multiple reasons.

Wondered if Antarctica was the place, but the reference to "lime" had me confused.

Enjoy the experience and good luck.

Haven't been myself but have worked with a few guys that have worked down there.

Nope, the colour of the buildings. They are all the same shade of lime green - except for Sir Ed's hut, which is "Pram Point yellow" and "Snow Cat orange".

And all of this is entirely perfect for the "makes me smile" thread too.

I remember talking to a helicopter pilot who had a posting to Antarctica.
He absolutely loved it, but he said it took a lot of getting used to, with the large expanses of white and the endless daylight during summer.
He had some fascinating stories.

You have to eat limes down there to ward off the scurvy.
