My lawns...

it has been so wet for such a long time the laws have been neglected for a long time.

3 times without the catcher over the last few weeks, slowly lowering the blade.

Today I went over them all with the catcher on, height set about 1/2 way which ash cleaned them up quite well and there is enough length left that the lawn dont look bare,  but will allow me to lower the blade another notch or two in another week and we will be back to a tidy back yard.

Also got rid of a trailer worth of "I might need it one day" items, so that has cleaned more stuff out too.

Aww that’s so nice Mike. May you enjoy many more years together. Having a good mate to share everything with makes life’s burdens easier.

Yesterday, I launched a trial balloon. In voluntary cooperation with the local citizens' association, which provided the premises and organisation, we offered two free IT security courses for people aged 40 and over. A few days ago, I defined and tested two knowledge levels for self-assessment so that advanced learners would not be burdened with trivialities and beginners would not be overwhelmed.

Of course, not everyone is a target for the secret service, but even those who are completely inexperienced should not fall for script kiddies. There were a few really clever people in the advanced group, but I managed to bring them back down to earth with a few tricks up my sleeve – but that's not what I'm talking about.

I had been working on the course for a long time, as it was incredibly difficult for me to put myself back on the level of a beginner with my background knowledge, and even my guinea pig (my older sister), who was initially completely unfamiliar with IT, eventually became too knowledgeable for me to simulate beginner situations.

It's important to know how to behave correctly under the pressure that is usually exerted when inbound callers use increasingly nasty tricks. I had set up a completely voluntary coffee fund for the team in a discreet spot at the exit, where everyone could put in what they thought the lectures were worth... and we were quite amazed: the coffee supply for the team for the next year should be largely secured.  ☕️🙂

Thank you. But I just feel that I have to give something back for all the happiness I've had in my life. 😉

A comment from the nurse removing my stitches last Friday made me smile:

"Wow! You heal really well!"...I'm sure she says that to all the middle aged blokes who have had facial surgery, but it was nice to hear anyway.

I am now down to some barely visible tape to reduce scarring and am a happy camper...biopsy results pending, of course.

EDIT: Oh, and I was able to have a proper shower, too! I can now get my face and head wet...a week showering from the neck down feels like an eternity, especially when it's hot and humid.

Awesome stuff, the more people learn the better it is.

Having computer illiterate aged parents on the net is one of todays greatest dangers.

The economic and emotional damage is immense. There were also people there who had the courage to reveal that they had already been victims once before. Many are ashamed, even though they could not have reacted any differently. Telephone number spoofing, domain name spoofing, SaaS especially for hackers, etc. I was already happy that by the evening they had internalised the number one rule:

No matter what you urgently receive INBOUND from your bank, the police or the authorities - make it OUTBOUND!

NEVER respond by clicking on a link in an email or logging in, but CALL BACK the telephone number you know (e.g. your bank) and verify what is claimed as going on. Of course, do not use the telephone numbers provided in the email, but rather the officially accessible or personally known numbers of the bank, police station or authority. This sounds so logical, but for many people who have grown up in a generation of trust in institutions, it is not.

The online live demo of the processes with our ‘hacker computers’ and beamers/projectors was funny. One member of the team is a fluent German speaking Indian computer science student who, grinning and deliberately, parodied all the clichés of an imaginary Indian fraud call center with his role in broken German with bits of English. We could hardly suppress our laughter. 🤣

I just received an email notification that my email account, along with 2 million other addresses, has been pwned. No, not really. I am completely relaxed because it is the honeypot’s email with an injected fake password. 😁 Let‘s see what happens next. 😉
