Last night, our regular hunters' gathering took place. Please welcome Hector, the six-year-old hunting falcon (or, to be precise: a Saker falcon).

The lad sat on my arm, looking utterly relaxed and thoroughly at ease. The protective leather glove was worn solely to guard against his sharp talons—which, unlike a cat, he cannot retract. A creature with an air of sovereign, noble dignity.

Firewalls do NOT stop dragons. Really not!
I avoid Big Tech. They try hard to dictate technology and „culture“ across borders.
In effect we have everything to hide from someone, and no idea who „someone“ is.

08:32 This morning there is an email notification of the delivery of my aliexpress order.
09:00 (approx) I go downstairs to check, but no parcel to be seen.
09:20 (approx) using chat to talk to the courier and they have pictures of delivery.
18:50 This evening, I open the door and find the parcel with a note from my neighbour who was expecting a similar similar sized parcel. We share an entrance and stairs, and she had picked it up by mistake and didn't check the contents until this evening.

So now I have my new FNIRSI FNB58 USB fast charge tester.

It's not defence force related as I understand it. Probably a private freight carrying mission.

When you said that, I immediately thought of Rocket Lab - but didn’t post it.

Seems that is right - NZH story today.

His weight is deceptive given his size, and I hold my arm relatively close to my body so that it doesn't "go numb" on me.

He is what is known in falconry as a "tiercel" (a male falcon); and since he is weighed—or at least *supposed* to be weighed—every day, I know his weight quite precisely: 813g. This is the primary indicator that he is in good health. His species can easily live to be 25+ years old. Hector measures 49 cm in length and has a wingspan of approximately 1.05 meters.

Sometimes he flies wearing a super-lightweight GPS unit or radio transmitter—allowing to quickly locate and assist him should he ever run into trouble in difficult terrain—and he once even reached speeds of 145 km/h in level flight. While falcons can reach speeds of over 300+ km/h in a dive, his particular species hunts horizontally.

I smiled a lot when I saw that Auckland FC made the Grand Final of the A-League.
I smiled even more when I saw that because Sydney FC won their semifinal, the Grand Final will be held in Auckland!!

Got given a Roomba 980. Surprisingly, despite having already been heavily used it's still in very good working condition despite being rather scuffed up on its top surface. I see that you can still get replacement parts for it and iRobot still support their old devices through an app they've named "Classic". Battery is lasting nearly two hours, not quite enough to do our 190sqm home in one go. Anyone else watch theirs while drinking a glass of wine? Definitely smile inducing. It's effectively solar powered, too.

Receiving an email from Air NZ about a warranty claim I made right at the end of the warranty period for an Airpoints purchase.
"Please send a picture clearly showing the pluc cut off and the appliance with said severed plug and the manufacturer will send a replacement directly". Or words to that effect.
It's sad that I expected a fight and didn't get one.
