I hadn't even considered that angle honestly. It would probably make a fraction more sense than putting an entire oganisation at risk just to win.

To be able to utilize two 16GB DDR5 OC RAM sticks—purchased cheaply as spare parts one year ago—along with two 1TB SSDs for another Linux UltraPC build. The price difference compared to today's insane prices easily amounts to a "free" RX 9070 XT GPU. 😎

I got my last machine upgraded with a black friday deal from PB on DDR4 64 gig kits. Wish I had bought more of them now but oh well. Storage is currently what I need more of but I have found a crapload of duplicate files when I finally worked around the tools 32 bit limitation of crapping itself because too many files. Next is to get rid of all the rar sets of things I am hanging onto which should get some mid-teens of TB cleaned up.

On my system, Windows 11 is now permitted to reside solely as a "To Go" installation on a bootable USB 3.0 NVMe drive, serving the sole purpose of performing firmware updates that run exclusively on Windows. If this becomes unnecessary in the future, that will mark the absolute final end of Microsoft Windows for me. 😎

AI gets a bad rap but it really is useful for some tasks. I did my tax return this year using AI and it was faultless when I cross checked it.

It only takes me an hour or two as all we had in Nz last year was a rental property but not having to deal with copying values from pdfs into a spreadsheet was great.

I'm still in the process of helping my mum sort out her brother's estate. Through that, digitalising documents/etc and when the bank closed the accounts they provided tax info that didn't quite add up (to the point I wondered if an AI was hallucinating in the production). I finally got around to suggesting she rings the IRD while I'm around to get the information they held against his IRD number, because it'd least allow us to check things properly.

I expected a bit of an uphill battle, IRD taking the "Oh that's an Privacy Information Request, that'll take 20 working days" type of route or similar, instead she got a really pleasant person who checked into all the info & could see she was the executor, but wasn't sure if or how best to get the information. After a little time on hold their solution was the simplist and most elegant one, they retroactively gave her delegated access to his IRD number, and she can now view all the information needed via MyIR. Even walked her through how to then get the information we needed

All within about 15-20 minutes from dialing the 0800 number (and not even one dedicated to estates) - heck calling IRD around this time of year was always a gamble if you'd even get through to the menu.

So I really have to hand it to the IRD for making it as uncomplicated as possible. Really wish some of the other companies could take a leaf out of their book. Oh, and it's proved the bank's calculations aren't completely accurate, but nowhere near as bad as we first thought, but at least we've got proof they told IRD different ones.

Side note, I'm not sure if MyIR actually does this, but one part of the call made it seem like the click interactions with some of the forms gets passed back live for when they're walking you through navigating the system. She jumped ahead and clicked one of the checkboxes and he seemed to interrupt what he was saying in response (but I might've misheard).

With the AFC A-League win, I was amused to follow the celebrations of the players over the weekend as they unfolded and were documented on social media.
Dan Hall posted a photo at 5.30am on Sunday with a half-dozen of the players still going.
A-Leagues official feed posted a pic of 4 of them hours later (minus Dan Hall) with the caption, "And then there were four"...

Good effort lads. I remember when I had that kind of stamina.

My eldest son bumped into a few of them at about 3.30am and had a slurry, blurry yarn and was invited to join them - he graciously declined as he was already well and truly ready to go home. They obviously kicked on and the rest was documented history.

No.
Went to the city with the wife and some friends and watched it. We were right by the official watch party at Takutai Square, so there was plenty of atmosphere.
Food and drink replaced the cost of tickets. I was OK with that.

I’ve been actively decoupling services from hardware vendors for the last few years.

Mrs Handle was due for a new phone and decided she wanted a folding phone to replace her iPhone. In the past this has been a bit of a mess with syncing from different Apple/Google services. With almost everything self hosted it’s a much more seamless experience.

Incidentally the Galaxy Fold 7 is a pretty great bit of kit.
