A Wax Eye trapped in our porch. Huge opening to outside plus lower window wide open but it kept flying at the corner high gable window trying to escape. Tried with a wide mop to coax it downwards, still kept flying at the glass and its mouth was open, exhausted and thirsty I suspect. Eventually got up a ladder and grabbed it. So beautiful and soft it slipped through my fingers and off it went.

The old "You can't lift something you're standing on" quandary.

At least if you're not a future robot, that punches through the lid, to get recycled batteries :)

Our city was the first to ban the nighttime operation of robotic lawnmowers. Studies have shown that nocturnal animals—such as hedgehogs—are being seriously injured or killed. After all, it is hard to understand why these machines need to run at night; people don't play golf at night, either. 😁

While I don't support the nocturnal use of lawnmowers (of any level of automation), hedgehogs are here a pest and we are encouraged to trap them. They are susceptible to a Timms trap (and even feature on the linked Wikipedia page). 

Perhaps we can investigate the live capture and export of these back to Europe?

My superstation one that I kickstarted ages ago and then added on the dock that caused delays has arrived at home today, so thats another MISTer system that I have, but this one has a nice case.

Hedgehogs are cute. We once had a baby one in the yard. Only discovered because it was crying so loud. It was difficult to relate the strong voice to the tiny animal the size of half a tennis ball. Unforgettable sound. 

And ferrets, stoats, weasels, rabbits, gorse, broom, etc. Not to mention the bl**** possums from Aussie.

No, certainly not. It just goes to show—here in Europe, it’s exactly the opposite, and the little creature is actually beneficial. Can you collect them and send them back? We could send you a few wolves for that... to deal with the red deer and the goats, for instance. But who knows what new problems might arise then. 😁😉

Canadian raccoons and East Asian raccoon dogs are spreading rapidly across the country. Rivers are overrun with Chinese mitten crabs, plundering all the way up to their headwaters the fish spawn of native fish species. The American grey squirrel is spreading rapidly and outcompeting the protected European red squirrel because it is smarter (what a pitty 🤨). I find it hard to believe that global shifts in species distribution can be halted, but there is certainly no need to fuel the process either.

Broke my glasses this morning - that didn't make me smile. 
Rang the insurance company - they approved the claim on the spot and advised Specsavers. 
Specsavers called an hour later - appointment for eye test etc at 3pm today. 
That made me smile. 

Back online less than 24hrs after plumber cut fiber cable to the house. Thanks Chorus.
