Or sellers who use keyword spamming, or overstate postage costs?

I know its annoying... And its one of my pet peeves with TM. But this is actually allowed as it is a stated cost of which they haven't changed upon your purchase. You are allowed to cover Postage / Packaging / Handling in the postage costs.

But it does grind my gears when someone charges a ridiculous amount to send something.

In their Code of Conduct it does state:

"Charge only fair and reasonable amounts for shipping and make best endeavours to state shipping costs in listings."

i don't mind an extra dollar or two (or even three) but you hear of people paying $10 to get someone posted in a 60c envelope.

I would often include a little extra myself (up to $1) when using NZ Post as a form of self insurance - things do get lost and I will automatically reimburse. It's all a numbers game, sell enough and something will get lost eventually.

Caveat Emptor as they say, basically you should know what the cost is and your choice whether you want to participate in auction or not.

As for the Op, I think some are being a bit harsh ad if indeedn this is a real thread not just a trolling effort then some have missed the point. However I agree there is more to it than what we are being told but criticising someone for their grammar and spelling isn't adding anything to the thread (IIMO).

At know stage has teh Op said they were right but just questioning TM banning them which, if all is correct, does seem somewhat harsh.

Exactly.... Fair and reasonable. So one is to charge an amount that is appropriate to the item.

I myself just charge the amount it will cost me to ship the item. Once I was charged $50 and when the item arrived it had the price onto of the postage label for $32.50. Some sellers genuinely don't realise the price and will reimburse you sometimes.

I think there is a financial loss, as the seller was contracted to provide the goods at $1. So whatever the difference the buyer end up paying for those goods, is the loss they have incurred.
I think if the OP doesn't understand this, they need to do some research on contract and auction laws in NZ.

Only if the buyer was willing to pay more for the goods than the $1 - it may have been an impulse buy but the buyer is happy to move on without it.

I've bought a lot of items off Trademe because they were cheap - not because I needed it. If I was outbid then I wouldn't say I suffered a financial loss.

IMO I think a permanent banning is a bit harsh - plenty of other traders have done similar things, got a red face, and moved on. Plenty of other traders have had multiple accounts and Trademe haven't banned them (they may have closed the other accounts).

Then what about traders that illegally sell a DVD without a NZ Classification sticker - a breach is NZ law (not just Trademe policies)? Should we slap a permanent ban on them as well?

Or sellers who use keyword spamming, or overstate postage costs?

Having said that, for TM to put in place a permanent banning I think there must be more to the story than asking for more in a $1 reserve sale.

The difference is they won the auction, they weren't outbid, so a contract was formed, and most people will buy something because they need it. If the buyer can show this, and they purchased the same item for more elsewhere as a result, then they have suffered a financial loss. I think what could have happened is that postage costs weren't listed on the acution, which gives the seller the opportunity to then contact the buyer to negotiate the postage costs.

I go to the post office, with the item & the address and get a quote on shipping - then I inform the buyer what it will cost and THEN I give them my bank account details.

That way, everyone is well informed and we are all happy - except for the woman who complained about $8.00 not being cheap enough as she believed that it should cost $6.00 to send...exactly how that's possible, I am not sure.

Yeah - some people somehow get extremely low postage! No idea how.

Some people use their work's postage and pocket the shipping amount.

Trademe are inconsistent with their rule applying.

I've let them know a couple of times about a trader that puts up images reportedly taken using his flash modifier, except these images are stolen from another commercial site that sells a completely different modifier! Trademe have done nothing about it.

I think what concerns me nmost about this is that i have no idea what a flash modifier is!

You talking about a seperate issue. Just because some users have not been found out, it does not mean that you have not broken Trademe's T&C
