freitasm: It's ok to buy a laptop from Ascent and have it shipped by NZ Post CourierPost, but try going to a NZ Post branch to send a laptop to anyone via the same NZ Post CourierPost service and see if you can get past the agent...
freitasm: Good news! Heard from NZ Post on this battery stuff:
We are looking at resolving the lithium ion battery issue. Indeed, it does preclude people from purchasing some pretty sought after items. We are confident of resolving this and we will get back to you as soon as we have a solution.

SaltyNZ: I'm completely confused about the ink cartridges ban. A Li-Ion battery ban is somewhat understandable if hysterically over the top. But what the hell can an ink cartridge do?
Unless... unless ink cartridges really ARE made of plutonium-doped unicorn tears, and it's the plutonium they're worried about?
But then... we can load plutonium onto a million tons of explosive and throw it at Mars, so maybe that's not it at all.
EDIT: I am so having a fat-fingers afternoon.
I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

I think the problem with ink cartridges was raised by Samuel L Jackson

Just today we've confirmed that lithium-ion batteries can be sent via YouShop. There are some restrictions but I understand that most gadgets etc would fit within this ? please see the updated information we?ve put on our website:
?Some electronic items containing lithium-ion batteries can be sent through YouShop. A lithium-ion battery must not exceed 20 Wh/cell, or 100 Wh per battery/pack. Stand alone batteries can not be sent.?

jofizz:
Awesome, I will try to confirm the battery capacity in a kindle. The Amazon.com page doesn't seem to give detailed specs?
I think I may have to preorder, sweet!
Cheers.
