The features I like most about the new Microserver are the size and low power usage.  It would be a welcome replacement to my current NAS, as the Microserver is powerful enough to both serve files and allow me to do some lightweight hosting at home.  My current NAS is a little too weedy for this.

The size of this really appeals to me, could be a better solution than a nas.

Would love this! We have a small business/studio with about 4-5 computers that are all currently being backed up to portable HDDs or internal drives, this would be fantastic for backing up as we deal with primarily large RAW files and HUGE PSD files, so having the 12TB of storage in a redundant raid array would be perfect.  We use Windows 8 on all of our machines so this will integrate very well.

I don't currently have a home server, this would fit the bill more than perfectly.

All my machinery which is capable of being networked is, but it would be great to have it all in my own domain. Things that really attract me are the iLO feature, small footprint and hot swap ability. I'd be looking to use this as a media server as well as a general file server and also start down the home automation track.

having a server this small and quiet would mean it could live anywhere and not cause any issues, and the stacked switch would help remove some items from my tiny cabling area

Small, quiet, energy efficient, and perfect for my new home NAS (which I need very bad).

I was thinking of getting a NAS but this is a full computer that can run a server operating system!
But the size is still nice and compact.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

The ability to boot from an SD card makes this a great candidate for an ESXi host!

I too am a fan of the size and low power - Ideal media server here
As HP say "Small, quiet, energy efficient, and can be placed anywhere"

I was just about to build something similar to this nice very nice :)

Single CPU good for the Free version of ESXi under it you could run a few Virtual Machines I think two Gig ports you could go port bonding if you have a switch capable of doing this.... :)

The HP PS1810-8G in this giveaway is capable of port bonding.

I love the size to power ratio that this server offers. It has the flexibility to take on the most demanding tasks and laugh in their faces.

It has been a pleasure to see the evolution that this product line has gone through since the N36L. Hopefully, HP keeps on delivering.

I am currently using a NAS at home for centralised storage but have realised that while "fun" and useful, it's missing something. Many of the specs of this little powerhouse just made me realise what that is. I've almost only ever used HP in my professional career, and so a huge supporter.

This MicroServer from HP just nails it with pretty much everything. The aesthetics really appeal to me, it is well sized to fit in my home "IT area." Being for home, energy efficiency is really important and that feature of the MicroServer is just awesome. I regularly need reliable remote access and what better than ILO. I've always found ILO to be a rock solid technology and really impressed it has been squeezed in this wee thing.
