surfisup1000: You didn't talk to this woman at NZ post. She highly rude , arrogant, and confrontational in the extreme. She was more interested in denying my claim than in trying to find my package.

I wonder, maybe I should ask to speak to her manager.

Definitely escalate. It could be an issue of the address. But you shouldn't be copping the whole blame. As others have mentioned, this is standard practice and should still see the item through.

surfisup1000: Whatever the case, NZ post do markups to the addressee as I asked them what happens. But, it is also the case that NZ post make lots of mistakes doing markups too. I'm thinking the goods ended up in the wrong po box.

I would guess you would be thinking correctly.

Well, i wrote the street address on the postage. But, when it didn't arrive, NZ post said that they do not deliver to that street address because they have a PO Box.

But, I also wrote my return address on the package and NZ post have not returned it.

So, even though NZ post have lost my parcel, they say they have no liability because I used the physical address and having a return address is irrelevant to any compensation claim.

Basically, they lost it, and don't want to give me any compo.

I have both a physical address that receives mail, as well as a PO Box, so that shouldn't make any difference. Ironically I had set it up so all mail to the physical address should redirect to the PO box, but it doesn't. You aren't to know either if someone has a PO box or not. There call centre isn't the best when it comes to the knowledge of their staff so I would escalate it.

Well, I have to agree with others around here. To me 90% of what you post is calling upper management dweebs, greed and ignorant. this is on NZ Post, Telecom, Vodafone and others. It's getting tiring now.

timmmay: Yesterday I sent a small package of clothes from Chiang Mai to Koh Samui, an island way down south. It cost me $1 for the box and $2.5 for express postage. Postage for eBay items from overseas are airways cheap. Nz post is already super expensive imho and I now use them as rarely as possible.

What postal service did you use? State run service?

I'm already self-employed and have been for the last 16 years with a "successful" small business (Successful for me. At least, schools seem to be the last hold-out when it comes to cheques.

My last child at school was circa 2007 although I still have two at Uni

We used to bank school expense money into our kids bank accounts and they managed it

When I emigrated to NZ in 1979, New Zealanders were said to be the heaviest users of cheques (per head of population) in the world.
Credit cards were unusual except in tourist destinations.
Now I write about 2 cheques per year.

I still have numerous customers who pay by cheque. If I didn't have to bother with cheques, I wouldn't have to pay $170 a year for a PO Box.

I only write one cheque a year, and that's to the guy who replaces the water filter. They want payment before they leave, and always have.
