surfisup1000: You didn't talk to this woman at NZ post. She highly rude , arrogant, and confrontational in the extreme. She was more interested in denying my claim than in trying to find my package.

I wonder, maybe I should ask to speak to her manager.

Definitely escalate. It could be an issue of the address. But you shouldn't be copping the whole blame. As others have mentioned, this is standard practice and should still see the item through.

surfisup1000: Whatever the case, NZ post do markups to the addressee as I asked them what happens. But, it is also the case that NZ post make lots of mistakes doing markups too. I'm thinking the goods ended up in the wrong po box.

I would guess you would be thinking correctly.

surfisup1000: I detest NZ post.

They just lost an item in the post and say they won't cover it under their insurance due to a technical loophole they are wriggling out of.

Whats the loophole, is it considered a forbidden item or something?

Well, i wrote the street address on the postage.  But, when it didn't arrive, NZ post said that they do not deliver to that street address because they have a PO Box.

But, I also wrote my return address on the package and NZ post have not returned it.

So, even though NZ post have lost my parcel, they say they have no liability because I used the physical address and having a return address is irrelevant to any compensation claim.

Basically, they lost it, and don't want to give me any compo.

I have both a physical address that receives mail, as well as a PO Box, so that shouldn't make any difference. Ironically I had set it up so all mail to the physical address should redirect to the PO box, but it doesn't. You aren't to know either if someone has a PO box or not. There call centre isn't the best when it comes to the knowledge of their staff so I would escalate it.

Then you obviously haven't read 90% of what I post ... which is your choice, but whiniing about it is plain silly. :-\

Well, I have to agree with others around here. To me 90% of what you post is calling upper management dweebs, greed and ignorant. this is on NZ Post, Telecom, Vodafone and others. It's getting tiring now.

Whatever you want to believe. :-\

timmmay: Yesterday I sent a small package of clothes from Chiang Mai to Koh Samui, an island way down south. It cost me $1 for the box and $2.5 for express postage. Postage for eBay items from overseas are airways cheap. Nz post is already super expensive imho and I now use them as rarely as possible.

What postal service did you use? State run service?

Nope, it's what you want to believe because you either haven't actually read everything I've posted or haven't remembered anything else ... but I certianly can't be bothered wasting any more of my dial-up time time on such silliness, so believe whatever delusions you want to believe. :-\

Err yup:

Buzz Bumble: I have and never will have any interest in being a CEO or any kind of management dweeb ... people tend to lose their braincells as they climb the "corporate ladder" and lose touch with reality. I'm already self-employed and have been for the last 16 years with a "successful" small business (Successful for me. I have no desire to "rule the world" or stuffing my pockets at other people's expense like most of the greedy idiots in "big business").

rayonline: Could be wrong but do some people enjoy writing letters? They want to get rid of cheques too but account no. would do. ..

You can still write them, scan or photograph them, and then email it. Or use a courier envelope. I can see post always being around, but it will move to couriers to deliver it, and it will be significantly more expensive. At the moment the cost of posted letters is offset by volume, because posties will usually deliver to most houses down a road, so aren't making  special deliveries. Couriers however are making special deliveries on a route, so the amount of time taken by them to delvier it is a lot higher.

You can email a cheque, do you just show your smartphone to the bank teller?

The banks have at least mentioned about wanting to cancel cheque books altogether.

Cheques, how quaint :)

I have not had a cheque book for well over a decade, I would be close to a decade since I last banked a cheque into my account

you obviously do not have children at school.

At least, schools seem to be the last hold-out when it comes to cheques.

My last child at school was circa 2007 although I still have two at Uni

We used to bank school expense money into our kids bank accounts and they managed it

When I emigrated to NZ in 1979, New Zealanders were said to be the heaviest users of cheques (per head of population) in the world.
Credit cards were unusual except in tourist destinations.
Now I write about 2 cheques per year.

I still have numerous customers who pay by cheque. If I didn't have to bother with cheques, I wouldn't have to pay $170 a year for a PO Box.

I only write one cheque a year, and that's to the guy who replaces the water filter. They want payment before they leave, and always have.
