I've heard of some "Lifetime" warranties being for the lifetime of the product. So as soon as the product fails it is out of warranty as it's "life" is deemed to be over.

Surely a breach of the fair trading act

I think they can say that i didn't look after it properly and then it becomes my word against theirs . So, it is not so clear cut.

I've yet to discover a non-stick system that lasts beyond a couple of years of heavy domestic use.

It's pretty simple. Either they will honor the guarantee or not. Return the goods under warranty today and find out. There is little reason for any further discussion on that point.

Forgot to mention glass (pyrex I assume) in my earlier list of stove top materials tried. Not really a contender in the non-stick department iirc. Once the novelty of seeing what you are cooking with the lid on wears off they have very little going for them imho. Never tried a glass frypan tho.

Yes, liftetime is a sales gimic term. For the products expected lifespan. Or as they found here, other terms with single ownership etc.

It's been like this for years. Lifetime warranty on RAM sticks back in the day was only ever 3 years, as that was the expected rotational period of component advancement. Similar to the 5yr HDD warranties we had, which was 3 replace, 2 partial discount of new equivalent.

Speaking of as seen on tv. 30min spot, for plastic shoe inserts. That are 'proven' by a scary long speech from a physical rehab instructor and showing how much weight you can push down onto someone elses hands while they stand up... lol!

Usually I will turf a pan out if it is becoming too difficult to use. I should really season them properly, but other than my Wok, I have not really had the need.

I am not really a fan of some of the non-stick coatings as it makes things like eggs and the like go rubbery (at least as far as I can see).

Looking at Iron Chef America it seems the choice of those pro chefs is All Clad stainless steel. They also use All Clad non-stick for certain situations.

But really the best value is a proper Chinese wok. Once seasoned they are pretty much non stick and don't require ongoing treatment. Just don't wash them with soap and water but wipe with a cloth or sweep with a bamboo brush (like the Chinese chefs).

I like cast iron myself. Once seasoned it's non stick and can withstand quite a bit of heat.

Actually got our act together and went in with the Stonedine to Mitre 10 yesterday. Got a full refund without any problems. Apparently the producer had told Mitre 10 that they have had a production problem with some of the Stonedines.

Cost of the badwill against a made up brand that will be gone in a couple of years vs the cost of doing a recall would probably mean that they dont give a crap if noone buys one of their products ever again and badmouths it online.

Look at the reviews for so many of the infomercial crap and you would never ever buy it, yet it still sells well. You could make a total lemon and infomercial it and it would still sell well.

Did the same and was told the same. No problem to refund. Stevens had a 2 for one on Circulon, so me and the folks paid half each for a nice looking $150ish pan.

Are these the same as the Stoneline branded ones? There seem to be two different brands, stoneline and stonedine. The stoneline ones look to have a 12 year warranty

Good job getting your money back. We have a mix of non stick and cast iron. The non sticks seem to last best on low heats and not for meats and they never make it past a few years. I prefer cast iron but with my buggered wrists I'm now stuck with light, non stick pans for a lot of things like crepes or eggs. Nice thing about cast iron is it'll go for generations...

One good tv product (maybe the only one?) is the Magic Bullet smoothie/grinder thingy. It's been superseded by the Nutribullet I think. A friend of mine has a (probably knock off) one from one of those daily deal websites. She paid forty dollars. She uses it daily for breakfast smoothies and swears by it and recommended it to me as a fellow berry/yoghurt smoothie lover. I bought the real thing for about $130. in Noel Leeming's. I was on my way to Warehouse to buy a knock off for $70. but they had none in. Our spice grinder had packed it in and this thing does spice grinding and smoothies/shakes and other small blender style jobs.

It takes up very little room, is easy to clean works great and does the job of spice grinder plus mini blender.

Come to think of it, I think it's the only seen-on-tv product I've ever bought.

I would disagree about the magic bullet being easy to clean. When they leak it is a bitch to get out of all the recesses where the top goes into the body. All the plastic is cheap stuff that goes cloudy in the dishwasher too.

To bring it back to the original post - I took it back to Mitre 10 and they accepted it for exchange no problems. But they have none in stock, so they've ordered a replacement. I'm happy with that...

If the comment about a problem with production of Stonedines is true, I'm hoping that means that my replacement will be coming from a better batch. Fingers crossed...
