Tried to watch it. Gave up after around an hour.

The episode itself seemed OK, but every time I was getting into it my immersion was disrupted by having to reach for the remote to forward through yet another barrage of loud, shouty, banal ads. Sure I didn't actually sit through the ads, but having to respond to them every few minutes meant that I never really got drawn into the plot.

I knew there was a reason I almost never watch FTA TV now.

It's actually a pity Sky doesn't put this type of quality material on an ad-free channel like SoHo for first run, or that Lightbox et al don't secure the streaming rights first. Might actually be watchable then, and I for one am willing to pay a reasonable subscription for this.

Get yourself a UK VPS and download it directly. That's what I do and it works a treat.

Second episode was on in Australia just the other day when I was there on holiday, but I didn't know, so missed the first 10 minutes and had to give the rest a miss.

I was wondering about that.
Saw that without ads first eposide was one hour and 19 minutes,
Yet on Prime it went from 7.30 to 9.25, so that works out to just under half the time being watching adverts.
To much for me, even to fast forward so just didn't bother. Wait for other options, hopefully light box puts it on when finished on SD Prime channel.

Most american programs shown here in a 1 hour time slot are 40 minutes long. Since the US is a primary market for this show I am not at all surprised that a 2 hour time slot had 79 minutes of program. Perhaps we should consider that Prime gave us a bonus 5 minutes by finishing at 25 past. In our house we started watching the episode at 8pm and just blitzed the ads.

Since when has (115 - 79) / 115 = 36 / 115 = 31% been "just under half"? Or do you mean 36 / 79 = 45%?

And more content, I have got a months free Netflix from the UK and its helping me catch up on missed episodes of Dr Who I have not seen in the past + IT Crowd etc.
I have it setup with a Tablet and Chromecast (both Netflix and Iplayer Apps support Chromecast) which makes it easy to use once setup.

Yep, see my mistake. I was looking at it at the ratio of ads to program without ad breaks, not ratio of total time with ad breaks to total time of ads.

Normal program length is 42 to 44 minutes, with rest time ad breaks to make one hour, so it was the normal ratio.

"Listen" is definitely the best episode of S8 so far, but I have to say that I haven't enjoyed this season as much as I had hoped.  While I've never been averse to change, I think they have changed too much, too quick, and in the process lost a lot of what made Doctor Who "Doctor Who."

There's always a few episodes after a change where the new Doctor and/or the writers and the rest of the crew are adjusting. Listen was definitely the best one so far. I *loved* the ambiguity. Can't wait to see where it goes from here!
