You get another 28 days after the first one. But they will often send things to the physical address not the postal one because they are morons so there is a good chance you dont get either of those.

A guy I used to work with had a few speeding tickets over the years, being young and liking fast cars. He had accumulated a few demerit points, he was about 10 points off an automatic disqualification. The points were due to expire in about six weeks when he got another smallish ticket. The interesting bit is that they don't apply the demerit points against your licence until after you pay the fine, to allow for you to lodge a dispute I suppose. He made the mistake of paying the ticket after he got the 28 day reminder, and ended up taking the bus for three months. That was when he worked out that he would have been better off with whatever the overdue fee was for waiting the extra couple of weeks to pay the fine.

(disclaimer: Yes he was a dick for speeding, and deserved whatever the law threw at him, don't do the crime if you can't do the time, etc etc)

I mean, for the sake of a $30 fine, can you make it cost them half that in reminder letters, then warning letters?

I'm sorry but you want to use MORE taxpayers money by suggesting that despite being guilty, he also makes it harder and more expensive to get it? You understand you are self defeating right? You pay taxes? Don't you want them going somewhere USEFUL?

I pay taxes but also interest. The longer money sits in my bank account the less interest I pay.

I just accept that some govt expenditure is on things I consider useful and some isn't.

They send the tickets to the address the vehicle owner provides. If it is wrong then it's not the Police that are *morons*.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Once convicted the demerit points apply from the date of the offence, not the date of the conviction or settlement. So there is not point delaying proceedings, you are just delaying the inevitable. After 2 x 28 day payment periods if a driver does nothing it gets referred to the courts and the offence is considered settled automatically.

It's a legal document. I imagine they are legally required to send to the "address for service" which must be the physical address.

It's only a $30 fine but the police seem to be dishing them out more

IMO 1 kmph over the speed limit should incur a fine.

A limit is a limit. Perhaps people should aim for 5km under the limit - that way if they go over 5km, they will still be within the actual limit :)

Let me just flip that over for you...The person that owns the car has a legal obligation to make sure the owners details are correct and kept up to date on the motor vehicles register, and drivers must keep their details up to date on their drivers licences. I think both can be done online now? This information is auto populated into the ticket. The Police process thousands of tickets every day, for their own and other agencies, they can't be manually checking each one to see if it's 'valid', the validation comes from the owner.

Yeah and if you show up to work 1 min late regardless of excuse the boss should dock your salary, and if you are one minute late to pick up your child you should pay extra time?

It was a valid physical address where I was living. It did not have postal service to it, hence the postal address being my PO Box.
