It has been presented by the state TV broadcaster as relevant to serious topical issues - it's not some trivial survey fluff on Facebook etc to gauge opinion on Kardashian bikini waxing or whatever.

Just look at the first question:

It's a loaded question - designed to elicit an emotional response. "Top of mind" for many survey respondents at this time may be issues like the Syrian refugee crisis, despite the fact they're refugees - not "immigrants" per se.
The question is illogical/oxymoronic - immigrants simply are part of NZ society regardless of what any survey respondent thinks about how hard "they" try to "fit in" - whatever that may mean.
So - they've presented an illogical loaded question with no rational option to answer - "strongly disagree" is not a rational option because of the way the question was framed.  It's arguably a leading question, as the incorrect notion presented (immigrants are not a subset of entire NZ society) may lead respondents to answer in a particular way.
Of course, the question will be answered by respondents - most of whom won't be aware that they've interpreted an illogical question when it seemed to make sense.

If this was an error by those who put the survey together, then shame on them for being so incompetent.  If it was deliberate, then as well as incompetent, it also smacks of agenda - for which those responsible should be flogged.

TV1 claim the survey was prepared by "social and statistical scientists" with the collaboration of some top NZ academics.  Absolutely woeful IMO.
