Athlonite:Nothing here and the sad thing is 1 month ago I was stood over in my own home by a two wannabe black power members from up north for my car I had kids in the house at the time so only thing to do was give up the key and ring the cops
Current alarm system: my own paranoia at noises and the neighbors dogs.
This could really be handy
just some pandora system that came with the house currently. also have ip cameras with zwave stuff, but the zwave siren is pretty quiet.
have a Paradox alarm but would love to add cameras
A DIY PIR connected to OpenHab sending notifications to my phone.
I have a DYI GSM alarm with D-link cameras. I'd love something more integrated.
well I have too cats who will quite happily watch any thief ransack my place without a care - unless said thief went into the kitchen near the cupboard with the catfood in it, in that case the cats would probably assist you stealing things in exchange for access to the food tin.
Here is our current security system. It is often stuck in sleep mode, and is easily circumvented by nefarious persons carrying food.
Current security system is a largish black dog, good for barking at strangers at the door, but not much use when it comes to recording things when you aren't around, plus you have to feed him so he is interested in doing his job.
We're got a professionally installed wired alarm system with PIRs as recommended to me in this thread oh so many years ago. In the time we've had it, we're the only ones that have set it off, despite a spate of burglaries in the neighbourhood a couple of years back. The box above the front door seems to be enough of a deterrent for the little scrotes.
We're about to move though and the new place doesn't have one. Yet. I was looking at this system following freitasms' review.
No security here yet. I've got a couple of ip cameras i'm looking at but don't ever think i'll have the time to sort out heh.
JayADee:
Two big dogs and an axe. Kidding about the axe. Maybe.
Is that the spine of your last burglar?
We have a wired in system that decided to turn itself on and set itself off for no good reason a few years back. The alarm rang and rang and rang until eventually I got through to the alarm company whose name was on the panel. They talked me through disabling it and removing the backup battery. So far, so good. Then before I could ask them to send a techo out to fix it, I got a 5 minute rant about how he recognized my address, and the guy that built the house (ten years earlier) never paid him for the system, and he's still pissed about being ripped off by that b'stard. After that, I didn't really feel comfortable that I'd be getting the best price on the repair work, so its pretty much a decorative box on the outside of the house now.
So there's the passive burglar proofing, and there's the even more passive burglar alarm who answers to Charlie, or fuzzbutt.
