Apologies, I got this wrong. It will be a shoe-shop.... because we don't have many of those either.
Maybe Wellington is heading for a Shoe Event Horizon
You may be right, John Key did mention (albeit 3 years ago) that Wellington was a dying city.
Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?
Here in Orewa the store has been taken over by "Live Love Linen". Presumably the staff will have similar expertise with IT and electronics as the previous tenant's employees
Lots of activity in the JB Hifi at the Riccarton Mall. New stands and shelving all over the shop. Opening day can't be far away.
Meanwhile, nothing seems to be happenning at the Queensgate/Lower Hutt store at all. The doors are down, the lights are out, there's a hastily erected barrier at the bottom of the escaltors, and not even a vaguely-worded "exciting new outlet opening soon" sign to be seen.
This would easily be the biggest space at the mall after Farmers, The Warehouse and Countdown (OK, and Event Cinema) - I'd say it's more than three times the size of the Whitcoulls store.

It is a weird shaped store though (with the Escalators going up into the middle).
I'd think the JB store there would be bigger (in terms of usable space anyway), after they extended it into the carpark last year.
Haven't been there for a while, is there still a few empty stores in Queensgate? There would have been about 5 when I was last there in about March.

Stock on shelves yet? Takes them a few weeks to fill it up. CDs/DVDs and games etc. first usually, then the electronics. JB has a lot of different products.
We have a new Countdown opening where I live next week, and they have been filling the shelves there for over two weeks so far.
Ex-Dick Smith in Te Awa at The Base here in Hamilton is still empty. It has the "New stuff soon" curtain up, and no sign of anything happening behind it. There's 2-3 other empty slots in Te Awa, so it could take a while to get a tenant. The old Paper Plus space has been empty for probably more than a year now. They really could do with a JB at The Base, but I think the Te Awa mall shops will be too small for JB, they'd prefer one of the bigger boxes in the outdoor area.
I haven't been anywhere near the huge DS in town, but then again, probably no one else has either, town is kind of dead these days.

Hard to say if there is any stock there yet. There's only the 10cm peephole to look through, & shelving is blocking the view to the upstairs part of the shop.

They hide the empty stores by putting up fake facade sheets, so they aren't as noticeable. Haven't been for about a month, but it looked relatively full, but I think there are still some empty stores. However the actual high streets these days is pretty dead.
The site of the Dick smith Featherston St in Wellington is going to host Wittner's flagship store from November.

The one in Palmy is still vacant and still has all the DS signage on the building.
The stocking of shelves at the new JB Hifi shop at the Riccarton Mall looks to be nearly complete. A couple of days ago they still had a scissor lift thing in there - working on lights I guess. However, yesterday when I had a look the shop seems to be close to opening. They also had a security guard standing just inside the temporary door.

Ready for an August 1st soft-opening?
Then promote the living daylights out of the store a few weeks later?
The big sign listing key tenants at the Riccarton Mall now includes JB Hifi. This is on the side of the East parking building.
Today at the shop I saw one security guard, who has now been given a chair to sit on! And one guy busily stocking shelves.
Who knows when they will open. I'm sure Westfield knows, and I am equally sure that no-one at their customer service counter would tell me!
