....

Blackbirds are one of nature's gifts.

 ....

They are introduced, so in this country more man's folly than natures gift.

 So were trout and salmon.

 What is your point?

My point i introduced birds are not a gift from nature.  They are something imposed by humans

As to your counter example .... trout have dramatically (some would say devastatingly) impacted native fish populations and freshwater habitats in this country.

Although legally protected (and an important recreational/tourism resource) they are as destructive in the freshwater environment as ferrets and stoats are on land.

Also introduced would be

sheep

cows

rye grass

Wheat

Barley

Hops

Grapes

Horses

kiwifruit

etc etc.

Man can - and should - alter the world to suit his needs instead of attempting to preserve it in aspic. Imagine what a great tourism resource bears would be here...!cool

Dinosaurs ? Pfft - I'm angling for the return of the Moa.

Slap on a bridle and saddle, and you'll have the original ride-on-moa  .. . . .

Meeting a Moa on a bush walk would certainly cure any constipation tongue-out

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Moa were herbivores.  About as dangerous as an emu.

It's the Haast Eagle you would have had to watch out for ...

Kai-tiakitanga?

Same pattern worldwide.  People wipe out the mega-fauna at the rate their population size and technology allows.
