Why is FTA given a bad rap? Is it 24/7 MAFS and The Block? If I looked through EVERY service, FTA and SVOD, I will see stuff I don't like, stuff I do like, stuff I can see is very good but not of interest to me. News, etc.

It seems to be trendy to bag FTA.

Because they are still stuck in the linear world, their streaming platforms are dire both in UI and quality. I only have one tv with an antenna connection to it, its the kitchen one and I have almost no reason to turn it onto it. Some people will just have it on showing stuff because that is what they have always done. Those people are dropping in number.

And don't forget the adverts - every 7 mins of program punctuated by 3 mins of adverts. Why would you subject yourself to this torture when paid SVOD has shown us a world where you can watch content advert free?

You have to pay for that. If you want to watch free vod then you still have plenty of advertising.

At least I have the option of throwing a little cash at youtube each month to see no ads.

Twitch now gives me ads when I go to it. Guess what I use a lot less of now despite having twitch prime because of amazon prime.

I go by content. Whether its linear or OD I dont care. Yes, linear is, well, linear, but I record most of what I watch, so that solves the linear problem. I FFW through ads. When I use OD I have to wade through genres and dozens of thumbnails, most of which I can't see.

Now, if my viewing habits were bingeing three TV series, then thats easier on OD. But I watch a variety of content, and news. The NZ news on Netflix isn't very good.

I focus on content, when TVNZ and Three are gone, if the predictions and desires here are correct, I guess I'll get my news off Stuff. Commentary off Stuff comments. :-) (Well, thats my comedy need taken care of)  Or RNZ instead? I thought TV took over from radio, but Radio NZ is all that would be left?

I checked out TVNZ and Three, the OD seemed fine, same design as they many others I have. All VOD are the same base design. The quality of the feeds was normal, I was switching back to Sky, all seemed fine.

Sure. It the fact still remains that either you pay or accept advertising. This is true in the case of vod, linear programming or physical media

IMO TVNZ programming is, for the most part, pretty average but TV3 is on a whole different, poorer quality, level. As for Bravo words fail me.

TVNZ on demand is actually not bad and I've watched a few series on there. Some of the series they buy in, mostly from the UK, are very good.

The thing to remember is that NZ is a tiny market for broadcasters so there is not much money to go round. You can't expect BBC quality and volume with a population of 5 million.

TVNZ aired 17 of the top 20 viewed programs first six months of this year which speaks to how poorly it's going for Mediaworks. The media landscape is changing, it's obvious when we have seen almost 10% ad revenue drops last year and large firms spending 40%+ of their marketing on digital. It will be a shame if Three is gone next year and there will likely be similar pain for TVNZ in the next few years but TVNZ makes money now and thats whats important.

A subscription only removes ads for the channel you sub to. Turbo ($8.99USD/mo) removes ads from every one or get an ad blocker. It's like how you can buy Youtube Premium or Hulu Premium for the same experience.

TVNZ aired 19 of the top 20 rated programs last year which speaks to how poorly it's going for Mediaworks.

That seems quite one sided. 19 of the 20 top programs of all types as rated by NZ viewers?

Thanks. It listed a few shows, they all seemed to be Kiwi reality shows?

He'll just be stuck with trumpeting his woke virtue signalling on RNZ then.

Given your clear dislike of the man (noting it's your second post essentially making the same point!), the answer is simple: avoid listening to Nat Rad between 1 and 4, or whatever his current hours are.

At least he's fairly easy to avoid if you so desire (which, personally, I don't); unlike Mike Hosking, whose words, voice and face are seemingly ubiquitous across NZ media - the joys of being a 'shock jock' means it is apparently necessary for all media - even those not owned by NZME - to report his latest blowarsery...

I do. He was a poor replacement for Jim Mora.

Mike Hosking didn't always used to be like that though (I know a few people who know him personally). He used to be a reasonably nice guy and quite humble. I guess the fame really went to his head.

As for TV3 being sold, that's a real shame. Like I said, I point the finger at Weldon for a lot (but admittedly, not all of) this happening.

Don't really care if TV3 lives or dies, but we need to end any taxpayer money they get, and also scrap TVNZ, Radio NZ, NZ on Air, Maori TV, and everyone else with a hand out for taxpayer funding.

Good luck with finding a buyer unless they put it out there as a fire sale.

Maybe the same buyer might want to buy Stuff...

Yes, as a bundle they may well be more interesting than separately
