elpenguino:

One of the few movies I ever saw at the flicks more than once, delves into what it is to be human and our coming doom as confirmed by Steven Hawking. Plus it's got car chases.

Terminator 2

Probably mine, too. I was just watching some remastered scenes on youtube over the weekend, its aged well.

The Sting.

It was about a con where the con never knows he was conned and the audience is also conned. The true outcome is only reveal in the last few moments of the film. Plus as an added bonus ragtime piano music and tunes which the move made into modern ragtime hits.

Lawrence of Arabia.

First saw it when I was 13 as my first adult movie and it had a profound impact on me. I've probably seen it 5 or 6 times on a big screen and went and saw the 50th anniversary 8k restored version (although the version distributed here may have only been 4k) at the Embassy in Wellington in 2013.

It was always a long film, even with various bits edited out over various re-releases. It apparently holds the record of being the longest movie ever to win a Best Picture Oscar at some 222 minutes.

You might need more than your coat if your wife finds out you've given that movie your vote.

This is a massive undersell :)

You missed out mentioning Newman, Redford and George Roy Hill getting back together after Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

That's an interesting one!

I always enjoyed Stephen King adaptations, particularly his novellas from Different Seasons, "The Body" (Stand by Me) and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.

The Langoliers was a 90s fav of mine too.

Schindlers List

Doesn't shy away from its tough content. Have watched it repeatedly over the years.
