More than I needed, needles and syringes...I only needed about one of a few different sizes, but it seems I was ordering 10 of each needle.

It's actually for trying to inject some glue into some wallpaper we have on the ceiling that seems to be letter go in a few places (rather than taking it down entirely).

And some cogs for making a new BBQ motor.  Rather than the plastic derailleur jockey wheels I currently use, where if you do it wrong they melt.

There seems to be no consistency to deliveries at all.

I just got a couple of bike lights in 11 days while others have 'been delivered' or are 'in the country' for over 2 months.

The bike lights are USB rechargeable type and are pretty good for not much money each.

neb: This seems to be the least inappropriate place for this, looks like the rather good quality Gophert 160x power supplies are back again after disappearing for a year or two. Apart from the lack of active PFC they're impressive for the price, minimal switching noise, no overshoot (except for a small amount of current in CC mode from the output caps), and just generally good performance. (The E models have active PFC but there's no E version of the 160x yet, only the older and less good 320x).

Still not sure why I should care about active power factor, particularly on such a small power supply.

I have what I think is a knock off of those branded gopher and it works fine for everything I have used it for.

A bit late in this particular case but you can buy disposable syringes for relatively little at most chemists, we got one for getting a fixed quantity of antibiotic paste inside a cat a year or two back (down her throat so she had to swallow it, not injected).

This rather nice T12/858D SMD rework station for $80:

It's a fairly sophisticated STM32-based all-in-one controller that they also sell for use with solder pencils, but for that I prefer my Hakko knockoff since I can toss the rubbish pencil it comes with and get a (cheap) replacement Hakko one to go with the (otherwise expensive) controller.

These things are really nice, there's a bunch of reviews on YouTube under the name 858D, the T12 is a bit better since it has a removable connector while the 858D is hardwired.

Edited to add: Just went through all my orders from Ali and eBay to see why this one arrived while many others haven't:

Delivered: Aliexpress Standard Shipping (in some cases switched over from Cainiao).

In limbo: SunYou, YanWen.

So in summary if you want to get the item, select Aliexpress Standard Shipping. if you want it lost on arrival in NZ, go with SunYou or YanWen.

neb: This Chinese knock-off of the very expensive Woodpecker Autoline.

@neb are you able to post a ink to the one you purchased?  I can only find plastic versions.

It was, past tense, this one, but they come and go quite a bit. You need to poke around, search with the keyword "alumunium" and then read the reviews to make sure that what they really shipped was alu and not plastic. The first one I got was advertised as alu and initial reviewers said alu but what arrived was plastic which I got a refund for.

Given the number of these that come and go it looks like there's a fair bit of bait and switch, they initially ship alu and then switch to plastic at some point, or the manufacturers that they're drop-shipping from do the switch without them knowing until they start getting negative feedback from buyers which is what I think happened with my first order.

Been using it a bit, this is a really nice piece of gear for $80, you can barely get a basic pistol-style on/off heat gun for that and this is a fairly sophisticated temperate- and airflow-controlled device.

Nice. How tiny do you go?

With this one, nothing yet since it's only just arrived, and I suspect it'll mostly be used initially for non-SMD applications of heat like heat-curing and heatshrink application. Otherwise even 0805's are a bit of a struggle, I grew up on through-hole and really prefer those if I can get away with it.

Yeah it was teh really large diameter needle that I thought i might have difficulty with.....I mean only only spent 20 bucks, and have about 50 needles now and 2 syringes.

Yeah, I got something similar for applying Ballistol (specialty oil) into tight spaces, standard squeeze bottles with stainless-steel needle tips, indispensable when you really need them.

The trick in all these cases is finding the correct search term to locate them on Ali. Years ago a friend of mine told me how long it took him to find someone to make small bubble-shaped silicone stick-on thingies with logos in them, and how easy it became once he found out they were called dome labels.

Oh totally, when I'm designing something I don't go smaller than 1206 cos I'm not a masochist. This looks good for getting those off and on.

I'd be lost without a magnifier light, even for standard soldering it's indispensable, and for SMDs I"ve only done passives, e.g. low-ohm resistors you can't get in through-hole.

Just had John Salt's review and teardown playing in the background and he mentioned that unlike the T12 solder station using mostly the same hardware it runs the heating element off the full mains voltage via a triac rather than the 24V or whatever the T12 pencil uses. Now the shroud is grounded but it's running the power through a GX connector which from memory isn't rated at anywhere near 240V, more like 100V which makes it OK for use in the US but dodgy in 220-240V countries. This may be why the one he reviewed was hardwired rather than having a connector on it.

Just received an iPhone case, purchased 27 January. Was previously refunded for non-delivery in whatever the specified period is.
