Easier just to pick another site that doesn't look ridiculous and is functional 🙂 looks like RNZ and 1News for me now. Bye bye Stuff, you were a good site when you worked properly.
The 'improved' IoS app is crap. If I scroll through the headlines and click on an article to read it, then hit the back function button at the top of the screen, it takes me back to the top of the homepage, so I then have to scroll through all the headlines I've already seen to get back to where I was up to. It should return me to the headline I just viewed so I can continue scrolling down from there. Like the old app did.
After this happened a few times I just gave up. I am utterly sick of seeing the Byron Kelleher DV headline over and over. I am sure he is too LOL.
I tried it a couple of times today because of the comments here. It didn't work on my Edge browser, but it worked in Incognito Mode on the same browser.
It loaded a full-page interstitial ad before even showing the homepage.
Nope. Closed the window.

Stuff……stuff full of ads!
on safari, top banner, side banner….and I’m logged into their website too (but don’t subscribe)
more ads than actual content…..unless there’s some summer students working on headlines…..as ain’t getting any better either.
I reckon the journalists and contributors a probally too scared to be truthful about the new layout….they are lucky to have jobs in this media landscape. It’s certainly going to reduce clicks and who’s actually got cash to subscribe these days when you can easily just listen to the radio for free or wait a day and see it for free elsewhere. (Main headlines always get wide coverage anyway).
They must have done something overnight because it's now loading in Firefox for me...but I can't stand the new layout and getting rid of sections because "they weren't being read" (doesn't explain why the search has disappeared as I'm fairly sure that would have been used) plus the, uh, unusual colour scheme...nah, not for me, sorry.
Doesn't appear to have search functionality anywhere unless I am missing something. That's a big fail.

My current pet hate is their "new look"
Who ever did their new layout/typography needs to be kicked in the balls. It's HORRID, it is hard on the eyes, the font selections/sizes etc are garbage.
Successful companies recognise "friction" for their customers as being important, there is ZERO way I would part with any money for a product that bad and I am now also getting my news intake from other sources.
Oblivian: "everyone has Samsungs 'internet' browser integrated that opens when you use the Google search bar enabletby default. Let's test most the code for that..."
Oh my. I just desktop viewed. What's with the 'shorts' section. Did I just hit youtube or Facebook.
(Apparently shorts are a thing, in FB world stories get far more attention and clicks than standard posts. Are we now down to 3 seconds on our social media derived attention span now?)
ROTFLMAO, I remember some years back a TV channel in Italy (IIRC) started doing the news on TV in the nude to try and keep their viewers attention...

Found this response to a comment on their sit asking where search had gone: "The search function was a legacy feature that didn't get carried over for launch. We will review whether it needs to be reinstated."
What a joke.

I'm reminded of a product where the powers that be had decided it needed a ground-up rewrite. Someone started with what they personally thought were the most important features, and the first rewritten version was released as a basic version with that basic functionality.
So that's how a document generation system ended up being released without any document generation features.

And a response to that was also quite funny - along the lines of "how/what do you need to review exactly?"
doesnt get past the S on firefox on my android phone. firefox is my default browser, im not changing that. i get stuff links from google feed. im so close to blocking stuff from the feed.
The stuff revamp makes it unviewable without an adblocker. Even just a DNS adblocker isn't enough, there's gaps everywhere. I had to even add a few manual rules to uBlock Origin to remove some of the random whitespace.
Also, how the hell is this formatting acceptable? Why must all the text be centred into a single middle column?
They're all bonkers at Stuff.
The fix of course is to consume all your news via an RSS feed which is what I do, but hey, I still love a good moan.
