Gorilla Burger in Wellington is pretty good. And the already mentioned Burger Liquor.

quickymart:

I was actually torn the other night for dinner between Burger Fuel or Burger Wisconsin - haven't eaten at BK in 20 years.

McDonald's used to have a very good line of gourmet burgers but they got rid of it a few years ago, which made me a little bit sad.

Had a Burger Wisconsin a few months back, after years. A bit disappointed. They tasted so much better twenty years ago.

As for McDonald's, I tried their Almighty Texan is a good one.

In Palmerston North I really like Reburger. They have restaurants in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Rolleston, Tauranga, Timaru and Wellington as well.

Burger Wisconsin

I used to live in Tawa and had that all the time, it was really nice! Hardly any of them around now though.

I find even Burger Fuel to be fairly decent, and - as mentioned in at least one article - is cheaper and the burger is quite a bit bigger than Wahlburgers.

This thread should probably be renamed to the general burger discussion. I haven't been to walhburgers, not would I likely, there was one on the gold coast that seemed quite popular, but I do think it suffers a little tall poppy sydrome here.

I dunno about that, if the burgers were actually good that wouldn't be a problem, but the reviews aren't exactly overwhelming.

When people decide before trying its not going to be good or make comments like 'another celebrity burger chain' it's not exactly a food review.

I mean, I agree reviews are underwhelming and photos I have seen back up the reviews mostly.

You don't go to a Planet Hollywood soley for the food, it's about the total experience. There aren't that many places in NZ you can get an American Sports bar experience. If you aren't into those things, why go at all?

So, 2 years on I still haven't been in - I'm actually not in that part of the CBD very much.

The reviews are still ranging from middling to poor; has anyone been in and tried it yet? It's a reasonable walk away from the rest of the pubs and clubs in the area, so I don't know how much foot traffic they would get.

Yes we have been twice and enjoyed it both times.

Honestly, sometimes I think people just want to hate on the place for no good reason. I am sure they have their off days, but I am pretty critical of restaurants and was wary due to the bad reviews but some of those reviews are just people being dumb.

Good enough to go twice.

YMMV.

I tried Wahlburger in Queenstown a couple of months ago, nothing michelin 3 star amazing or anything but I've paid more for worse. Certainly worth trying at least once IMHO and I'd go back again for an occasional treat.

Honourable mention too of Devil Burger in Queenstown, tried them as an alternative to Ferg Burger on the same trip and it was damned tasty.

IMO the best burgers in Auckland right now are found:

reBurger.

Stacked Burger Bar.

Fireman Burger from Chickn Eats

Brewd Hawt (Chicken and Waffles are also good).

Parade in Ponsonby.

Less excellent but very consistent is Burgerfuel.

I am sure there are others, but many are overrated IMO.

No, the first time we went we were invited as part of a social group. The second the result of the good experience I had with the first visit.

And now it's gone. 18 months isn't very long given all the hoopla around its opening.
