Lile so many before, I am stuck with using an old desktop with big HDDs plugged in.

Well I "had" a pretty Acer NAS and a reliable Promise Raid box. Both got covered in Liquefaction/damaged during the Feb quake.

Here's my aging Cisco NAS (500GB) and equally aging Linksys router. And yes, that is a Papua New Guinean penis sheath behind them both.

Downgraded to a NAS a couple of years ago but not finding it works as well as we'd hoped - so here's hoping for the upgrade...

I've got an old HP Server TC2110 running Windows 2000 Server Edition. The USB ports aren't working so backups have to be made onto an old 100MB Zip drive.

It would be awesomely awesome if I got a new server, because I need more than 20GB of space for a family of 4! Most likely use it for file sharing, mythbuntu and running SETI@Home.

My "server" is an old Dell Inspiron laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 with a bunch of useful server apps.

I don't have a server, i have to make do with my PC. However i would sure as hell love one! I rent server space off an Overseas company (cheapest i found at the time and i got a good deal), i would dearly love to host my own website!

Also, is it Pig Resistant? I have a bit of an issue with my current Rig, it keeps getting stolen by Pigs!

I actually havent got any HP products anymore, used to have a Deskjet printer, but the Ink was too dear, so I changed to brother and donated the printer to a local school

Well currently I'm backing up to a number of external HD's plugged into my desktop. Adding one of this little beauty to the network would make it a lot easier and safer to manage the backups, not to mention it'd make a lovely little media server, another job my desktop is currently doing.

As such I'd love a little machine like this!

Current Kit:
5 year old Dell Laptop with a fried battery
1TB external drive permanently connected for media storage
several other external drives with data backups in various states of updatedness
7 year old custom build P4 desktop backup PC that hardly ever gets turned on

How will the HP Microserver benefit my setup:
To start with I can start to get serious again about maintaining my data properly
I can start to re-allocate some of the duties my laptop currently struggles with to a dedicated server and not have to worry about the other half messing things up too much

I recently decommissioned my old home server because it is over 10 years old and was making some very odd noises. I have lots of computers in the house, but no central store for my data, or web applications. I have made some space for a new server!

Got an old Athlon64 Linux server atm that is in need of dire upgrading - failing fans, flakey powersupply etc. Anything has got to be better than what Im using ;)

This would be a fantastic home server all all the music / movies / photos, and I could run some phylogenetic analysis on it without tying up my main PC.

I currently use a kurobox pro great hackable NAS but sadly ARM cpu is a bit annoying for certain programs that need x86 compatibility also a little slow for certain operations this HP miocroserver would be handy :)

Also wouldn't mind winning that. Would make a nice upgrade, altho nice to see i'm not the only one with the old 'cube server' box. :p
