As someone on Powershop's Facebook page pointed out, it's even got the Powershop logo in the photo (look at his hat!)

Oh yeah, never saw that myself. Wonder how that happened.

The plot thickens... according to the latest post by Powershop, they used http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=363706059978&set=a.72745184978.21820.13687049978&type=1&ref=nf in Feb 09, from a stock image, now I don't know about you, but it looks to me as if someone had a fiddle with the filters in Photoshop or something, instead of purchasing the stock image and using that.

(Please note, I'm not saying that it did happen, or accusing anyone of doing that, because I don't have proof, but to me, that is what looks to have happened.)

But seriously... Powershop have used Che/Saddam/etc as parodies to put across a particular point in advertising, "Seize Power"/"Power Beverage" have used Che as branding. I can tell you right away which disgusts me the most, the use for branding a product.

So when you sue these guys for ripping off your art, will you sieze all their product and stuff? I would happily help "dispose" of it ;)

Looks like the only changes where the adding of 'with' and a little colour balancing which was mainly limitation of the printing on can process. Same font, same beret logo, same background. A clear case of IP theft.

I bet its the same ad agency who googled "power"and the new softdrink company brief got their poorly executed ad idea cheaply reversed, the original will probably be found using tineye , and i bet its CC :)

yeah it is bad taste because it is bound to offend some people, but it says to me " we want to get the attention of the people who want to rebel, (and with all the crap in it, it will kill off all the rebels early) But what disapoints me is the idea they almost got out "Seize Power" Which could be executed to define a moment in someones life that changes them, a new job, a girlfriend that says yes or once upon a time the bully getting a punch in the nose. An agreement , a win Thats what coke ads do, they trigger emotions, and then flash the Logo.

All they've done here is a pun on power, reminded people of the corruption, violence, racism and trouble in the world and then flashed their logo.

Maybe NZ has some strange values on what is and isn't ok.

I think powershop was pretty clever in showing the extreme contrast in there campaign,
they are saying the power still comes from the moldy old system but has been repackage into something fresh and new.

My experience over 50 years is that the more ignorant and self-centred a person is, the more likely they are to thoughtlessly give offence...and to describe any negative reactions as being "PC".

There is the odd exception and many shades of grey....but the rule above holds true very, very well.

Of course people who are ignorant and self-centred would never have the insight to understand that is how they are....and would just as certainly never listen to anyone who tried to tell them.
