Thanks for the comments, yeah, I'll leave it open, they seem legit:

but it just has the potential for endless hassles if they end up not shipping or provide a fake tracking number. Even if everything goes right it's going to take 1-2 months before I know whether it's been sorted.

i have to laugh at the langue the sellers use when you open a dispute with them. I had some goods ordered and after 2 months they were returned to sender on the tracking app so i asked for a refund . This was the reply

.hi dear I believe you are a kind person, and the dispute is very harmful to us, I hope you cancel the dispute Our work is not easy, at the risk of being infected by the virus, shipping the package to your handsI believe you are a kind person, the dispute is very harmful to us, hope you cancel the dispute.

Almost every single one of them when communicating calls you "dear": "hi dear" "sorry dear" etc. The first time I ever encountered it I thought I was speaking with someones grandma.

I have little sympathy, as those sellers are typically are also cutting corners in shipping

Had a bunfight a few months ago when I paid $50 for a premium shipping option and ended up getting the cheapshit Aliexpress generic method.

It's a Chinese form of address meant to indicate a friendly tone being used. Unfortunately the translation into the closest English equivalent misses the way "dear" is actually used in English.

I noticed one of my packages had a new tracking number assigned to it. When this has happened in the past, the old one has always been crossed out and the tracking information was updated to the current one.

This time, something odd happened. The old number remained, in a light grey colour, with a new number added. The old tracking information seemed to persist. Looking further, I found that apparently AliExpress can combine shipments from multiple vendors into one. This would have been undesirable back in the day when GST wasn't being collected on our behalf, but I suppose it's fine now.

The odd thing is, they have combined a single order. There may have been two shipments under the same order number as this purchase included two products from one seller, but there was only one tracking number provided initially.

Hopefully a sign that AliExpress shipping is going to get better. It's certainly doing okay at the moment, with two shipments now in Auckland less than two weeks after ordering.

Advice please.

I've run into my first real difficult purchase. I ordered an aluminium enclosure and it came after a month, well packed, but on closer examination it's bent. It looks like it is damaged at both ends so my view is that it was damaged before packing.

I opened a dispute with photos etc. Seller closed the dispute unilaterally soon after and says via messages they have sent a new one a month ago. Tracking number not valid according to cainao and no order at zero value shows in my order list.

Are they pulling my pud? Should a zero value order show?

They're pulling something. They shouldn't be able to close the dispute without you agreeing to a resolution (which may be implied after a certain timeout). If you can't reopen the dispute, contact customer service and ask them to take another look at it. I've done this in the past when AliExpress ruled against me twice (initially, and on appeal), and they did provide compensation, so it's worth a shot.

As for the seller shipping the item again. Don't believe it. Always ask for a full refund.

Now they've deleted the most recent messages from the message chat - I think they realise I'm asking too many questions.

Still annoyed a dispute can be closed without agreement.

I'm wondering whether to persist or accept a small loss and hammer them with damning feedback.

Feedback seems to be limited to the product for ones you can read descriptions of. The product will get deleted if there are negatives and a very similar new listing appear.

Ahhh, giving seller feedback would be much more useful in this case.

Looks like the code they gave me for the replacement unit over a week ago now shows on a tracking site, but activity begins only yesterday with 'pickup scan'. Suspicious....

As far as deleted messages go, I was sure when I posted that that there was no scroll bar. However, when I checked later, all messages were there so I feel bad for accusing the seller of doing that.

As I have another look now, the message where I ask the seller earlier today if he/she deleted messages is not visible so whiskey tango foxtrot?

The majority of my packages are doing roundabouts in China (one seller agreed to refund) and a couple that have arrive in Auckland about 2-3 weeks ago.

I last saw this type of delay a year ago, starting in October.

Ordered two items on the 25th of Oct from Ali using Standard Shipping to North Canterbury (one of which I upgraded to Standard from China Post Small Item for an extra 30 cents), first one took 11 days in total to arrive, second one took 26 days to arrive. Both of which were quicker then I used to see before C19 wrecked everything. I'm choosing to believe it's purely good luck and won't be rushing to order more from Ali.

I ordered a phone from Supero at the same time and it took 25 days to arrive, it was nearly beaten by the case that was ordered from Ali for it.

I don't think it's luck. AliExpress Standard Shipping appears to be more or less back to normal based on my deliveries in the past week or so. Total delivery times to Auckland below...

Cainiao - 13 days
AliExpress Standard - 11/13/13/20 days

A fair portion of this time is spent in the NZ Post system. I have a Singapore Post package at day 23, after arriving in NZ on Wednesday.
