One of my friend who applied a couple of months back got his approval today 😲. He applied online in Wellington, if that helps.

Is this a joke or the gov't just make up rules as they go?

I'm on my 10th month of waiting now hopefully next month I'll be getting that confirmation of details email.

I applied end of February this year and already received my approval too. It was a big surprise.

Applied for NZ passport this morning, just in time to have to pay the increased price.  It went up on 25 May, it's now $199 for standard delivery.  They have addressed the delay issues they were having.......by stating the standard time frame is now 1 month.

That was on 28 May.  Looks like they'll be cutting it fine to meet their one month prediction.

Good evening , anyone submitted in July 2021 has CO assigned ?

I applied in June last year. When it passed 11 months, I called them to check the status of my application. They said there was an error (how unusual!), and they accidentally started processing earlier applications before finishing with the older ones. The lady on the phone also said that since my application is past the promised 11 months, I should hear from them 'any day now.' It's been more than 12 months; the case officer hasn't been assigned to me. The website still says '11 months to appoint the officer', so they haven't updated this one either, even though it is inaccurate. Pathetic.

My partner is still waiting for her application from 26 May 2021 to be processed.  She has emailed them twice last month and just got the usual timeframe BS from them in reply.  She has been here for the full 50 years with only the odd trip overseas for less than a month.  Excellent credit and no criminal convictions; she is a British citizen with automatic residency privileges.

She has not even been advised they are starting to process the application.

At this stage she is going to get her resident visa transferred to her new British passport.

@psychrn any updates? Seems to have taken a very long time to process your partner's application...

She just got an email today and they physically want her GB passport, can send it to Christchurch or make an appt Christchurch, Wellington or Auckland. It has been so long she has a different, new passport than when she applied for citizenship!

Probably best to take a trip up to Auckland I would say.

It's now been a month and a week and I still don't have my passport.  I decided to give them a call yesterday and after over an hour on hold spoke to Angela who was delightful and trying to be helpful but ended up not being particularly useful.  She could see my application but couldn't confirm that it had actually reached the processing stage yet, essentially implying that the txts above are meaningless.  She then talked about a month meaning thirty business days ???.  She tried to give me some comfort that I should have it within the next week or two.  She added that many people are now choosing to upgrade their application to urgent and paying the extra $200....I guess that means non-urgent ones will sit in the queue for longer.  They have now added a banner to their webpage to say that standard application are currently taking up to six weeks because of backlogs..........what an utter shambles.

Citizenship timeframes | New Zealand Government (www.govt.nz)

Looks like more and more straight forward and on-line applications will be approved now due to that automation system. First come first serve system must have been chucked in the bin.

Good for those who are about to apply bad for us who are already in this circus, the total timeframe has increased from 14 months to 16 months.

My son is a citizen by descent, and we have now been waiting 7 months.  His Dad who applied a month or so after has already got his citizenship certificate and is now awaiting his passport.  Crazy.

We had to apply using a paper form as the website can't handle applications made by kids who are already citizens by descent.

When I dropped his forms in, I was told they had to make sure that the kid is going to remain in the country after grant.  I'm not sure how they'd do that - no intention to go anywhere, but who would know what would happen in the future.

Friends who are going to Europe and lost their passports got theirs done urgently this week within 3 days. I guess urgent and paying more is the way to go although if too many take this route it will be back to delays.

Zeal: That’s a whole 10 months😟 does any one know if processing time will ease this year as the website says

there is no logic. Some people getting their approval in 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 while others are waiting for more than 12 and 13 months. It seems they are using a buggy system :P
