Visit their FB page for the laughs to look at comments about new site.. get bombarded with banner video

That's new. Intrusive (good to ask for rescue support) but intrusive.

Sadly, as they are detailed as a verified media outlet. Not subject to visitor posts. I suspect if they were open, it would be a field day.

I wonder what their Google analytics are telling them.

I noticed that too - was expecting to see some feedback from visitors in their posts but they don't appear to have any, only comments on articles.

You have to think they might be filtering what gets posted

If they had left a link up to the old page while testing this one that would have been better.

As a non-Herald reader I haven't been following this thread so forgive me if this isn't news, but I just noticed an ad for the new site in our local paper (NZME publication, no choice as it is the only local paper). The ad is headed 'you've changed - so have we'. The thing is, there is a big Democratic Party button in front of the montage illustrating the ad, which makes me wonder what change they are talking about. Change of political party allegiance (to another country, no less)? Change of nationality? Maybe just a change of animal preference (donkey on button)?

More likely they just grabbed the first out of copyright stock photo they could find, without even bothering to look for something actually relevant to New Zealand. Or is it out of copyright? Maybe they followed National's example, and just pirated what they could. Whatever the reason, it looks cheap and imitative and unoriginal to me. Just like the Herald website.

I noticed that they now have a big popup feedback form on their website asking people what they think of their new website. I started to fill it in but lost interest after page 3 of it. If they are going to have surveys like that, at least show that you value the persons time by offering everyone who fills it in, to go into a draw for a prize. Or at least make it really short and easy.

I'll be interested to see if they actually listen to any of the feedback provided.

I have found the website works okay on an iPad, but it then opens up link in the app. So I ended up deleting the app, which often crashes anyway. So the website is better than the app, even though they are almost the same now.
It does seem like the new website has been designed primarily for tablets. Not sure who they used to design it, but the desktop responsive setting for webscreens is not working how it should. I design websites myself and know my clients wouldn't be happy with the way it is performing in the desktop view.

Do you reckon the old site looked better (on a computer)?

Well the majority of articles were on a single page

Now it's scroll... Whitespace...scroll.. more scroll, crap story, scroll..mildly interesting story, scroll... Why am I this far without anything interesting.. scroll..

That's my experience too. Too much white space, and too busy. It's a mess.

I'd hate to be the person who has to collate all their feedback.

I suspect that they won't thoroughly collate it, or accurately report on it. They may try and spin it.

For instance, if they get 200 responses that might be able to be construed as positive, and 10,000 that say it's terrible, I suspect what they will say is that hundreds of submissions were received liking the new design.

I wonder if anyone from the Herald reads these threads on GZ?

NZME's radio stations are performing poorly in the ratings, yet they are still publicly patting themselves on the back for a great result.

I suspect their attitude towards their terrible web site will be much the same.
