Visit nzherald.co.nz and it automatically redirects you to their new beta site.

What do you think of their new look?

I assume it still does not offer actual journalism, regardless of how it looks?

Unless the changes are very subtle, I am still getting the old site.

Website here. I wasn't redirected. Looks fine.

I don't use The Herald much, on my phone their app goes back to the top of the story list when you finish reading a story. So I mostly use stuff on a computer as well.

They might be trialing the new look to a small percentage of users

TimA:

Looks like stuff's website now.

Is it me or do they often have the same stories now?

Use to be a few (especially if pulled from overseas) but seems to be more and more frequent now to the point I sometimes don't know which site I'm on (I use a news app and flick between the sites in the app)

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Might as well be a third party RSS feed from a select news agencies offshore.
All they seem to do is repost!

They get their NZ content from readers who send in photos. They then send the photos to a panel of children book writers and they look at the image for a bit then write about what they think is going on. Who ever creates the most outlandish isis 40 inch ballistic tungsten alien warefare hunting toucan beak being used as a boomerang while london bridge is falling down gets theirs posted on the website!
Thats my theory anyway, Lets hear yours.

Have been on it for a couple of weeks now and overall hate it.  Especially hate the big black menu on left that takes 1/3 of screen.  Its not bad when they have the menu button at top left and you click that to bring menu down.  Guess they are still experimenting as it switches between the 2 styles often. Prefer the old site

Apparently, the police suspension of a search for someone that almost no readers will ever have heard of constitutes "Breaking News".

And in other Breaking News, 82 year old nanna Mrs Doreen Smith of Timaru had two custard creams with her tea this morning.

I don't HATE the new site, but I guess, because I am used to it, I prefer the old site in terms of look. Content gets worse regularly.

Maybe if they sacked their web team, they would have more money for journo's and people to check spelling and grammar.

I just hope they stop posting sports results before I have a chance to watch the game.

They are probably still on IE 8 without spellcheck!

I hate the new beta site as well.  It's apparently optimized for those who read the news on their tablets/phones so when I'm sitting at work wanting to have a quick surf of the news on my desktop it looks ridiculous and isn't easy to navigate.

The over sized black menu bar on the left takes up about a quarter of my desktop screen. This is a brilliant idea since they have very little actual content to fill the screen nowadays.
